You might want to check your facts on this one. Dahmer was separated from the general prison population as is common with the sex offenders. The hardened criminals who have taken human life feel it an insult to have to live with what they consider the ultimate scum of the earth--adults who rape molest and children.

Dahmer adjusted very well to prison life at the Columbia Correctional Institute in Portage, Wisconsin. Initially, he was not part of the general population of the prison, which would have jeopardized his safety. As it was, he was attacked on July 3, 1994, while attending a chapel service, by a Cuban whom he had never seen before.

Dahmer, the model prisoner, convinced the prison authorities to allow him more contact with other inmates. He was able to eat in communal areas and he was given some janitorial work to do with other teams of inmates.

For some incredible reason, he was paired up with two highly dangerous men on a work detail: Jesse Anderson, a white man who had murdered his wife and blamed it on a black man, and Christopher Scarver, a black delusional schizophrenic who thought he was the son of God, who was in for first-degree murder. It's not difficult to imagine how Scarver viewed Jeff Dahmer, who had butchered so many black men, and Anderson. It was a disastrous combination.

On the morning of November 28, 1994, the guard left these three men alone to do their work. Twenty minutes later, the guards came back to find Dahmer's head crushed and Anderson's fatally injured body nearby. A bloody broom handle seemed to represent Scarver's statement on the subject. Jeffrey Dahmer was pronounced dead at 9:11 A.M.

The fact that Dahmer did not get the death penalty is a travesty of justice, and ironically he was killed in prison.

The only good thing to gain from keeping Dahmer and his ilk alive is to study them and to have them work the rest of their lives to pay for their own keep and for helping the families of their victims.

Giving guys like Dahmer and the other killers free room and board for life is not a deterant and it does not begin to even approach paying their "debt to society" when their victims familes go without and need so much support and treatment. The killer needs to be working to pay for those bills if they are going to be kept alive.

Indeed. But I was responding to clockwork's incorrect assumption that I thought cutting off a penis would solve pedophelia. Castration doesn't involve the removal of the penis, so what he does harm with isn't the affected factor. it's his desire to do that harm.

However, 5150 does bring up an interesting factor about addiction, though it is my opinion that this part can be managed if the desire is there to do so. Without the chemical or actual castration, however, I consider it to be nearly impossible.

It has been shown that genetics play a vital role in serial killers / rapists.. The whole nature vs nuture thing comes into play BUT from my experience I believe it's a chemical imbalance in the brain, or some kind of faulty wiring up there not solely their testostrone levels, there's no real way to prove this though other than looking back on the family which shows severe mental instabililty.. I understand castration but don't believe that would solve the problem

Probably more accurate to say the brain. I think what he is getting at is that molesters will use what ever means they can, be that fingers objects ect. Becuase of the strong element of addiction and OCD, castration just does not work that well. This all goes back to the fact that the biggest and most powerfull sex organ in the body is the mind. That is where it all starts.

My friend who treated the prison based sex offenders once told me that you could lop off a male sex ofenders penis and he would still find ways to masturbate himself to climax and to penetrate his victims.

This is why working with female offenders presents some real challenges becuse they like men do not need to use thier genitals to satisfy their urges to offend or to reach the pleasure that they get from sex with underage children.

exactly, sexual pedators may start off their "careers" to fulfill some sexual fantasy / urge but repeat offenders often are more into the control issue and the addictions they fulfill with any act with a child
