And up until 1992 some 1 to 2.5 million women had received breast implants in the USA (The basis of the FDA's decision on breast implants. Kessler DA. N Engl J Med. 1992 Jun 18;326(25):1713-5).

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons indicates that in 1998 over 132,000 American women had their breasts augmented for cosmetic reasons (which is basically the main reason, e.g. over 70-80% of total performed augmentations), but this figure may be underestimated in terms of the annual augmentations due to nonsurgeon physician surgeries (Cosmetic breast augmentation surgery: a critical overview. J Womens Health Gend Based Med. 2000 Oct;9(8):843-56. Sarwer DB, Nordmann JE, Herbert JD).

Breast augmentation is a trend that was apparently started in America, so I'd imagine similar figures follow throughout the world, if not less.

The population of the USA is about 298,444,215, of that 100,413,484 are females between 15-64 years old, then add to that some of the millions of women who were around the typical age for implants in the 1960s. Now compare that with how many women are known thus far to have gotten implants ever since the early 1960s. And adding all that up, and negate a few deaths over the years, but we still see that a figure of 60% is unrealisitic. Even if the "have had" refers to a general woman's lifetime, I still believe the percentage is inflated.
