serious pain-

ive been experiencing some pretty significant pain in my right elbow when doing triceps work.

ive basically been forced to eliminate most triceps exercises from my routine (with the exception of dips or bench dips) cause im afraid of damaging or tearing a muscle, tendon, etc.

is there anything i can do to somehow alleviate this pain, or strengthen the affected area? thanks yall

Do you feel the pain mainly during overhead extensions (dumbell/skullcrsushers) compared to tricep pushdowns?

I've had the similar problem in my left elbow only when doing extenions.

Bump for an answer.

actually yeah- overhead extensions of any kind are severely painful.. pushdowns hurt, but i can do them if i keep the weight light.

I went through the same phase last year.
I was stupid enough to keep going and I made it worst. My both elbows used to hurt even doing bench press.

Then finally I took some weeks off completely from working out. Increased my dosages on fish oil, glucosamine, cissus

tennis elbow ( tendonitus ) ...its a real bastard.
i am surprised you can still do dips , i would stop doing any direct training on triceps and get a scan done to see if there is a minor tear on the tendon.

if you try to push through the pain you WILL do more damage and eventually be out for longer.

this is what i did...ice pack 3 times a day for about 10-15 mins max , glucosamine , msm powder and skeletal balm from NTBM 3 times a day.
^^^^^^these wont heal the injury but will give you relief , only time and caution with the tendon will allow it heal.

cortisone injections give temporary relief also but will give you a false sense of recovery and if you start hitting your tri's hard you will be back to square 1.

after a few weeks i would do CGB and maybe some very light skull crushers , steer clear of DB overheads and dips tho.

aright man well thanks for the heads up, i think ill get a scan done and assess it from there- you suggest taking time off, supplementing with glucosamine, ice packs.. i suppose i will do just that, at least until i kno what kinda injury im looking at.

thanks yall

you dont have to take time off bro...just make a plan to hit legs hard for the next few weeks and focus on that.

blast your abs too.

if there is any upper body you can do that does not cause discomfort then train with a lighter weight for higher reps...do drop sets aswell.

be patient and good luck.

don't forget acupuncture, that is the best thing to do for this type of ailment.

lay off as columbo said.. it will go away.. you are overtraining pure and simple so back off..

if you keep pounding away and take anti-inflammatories you will turn an easy situation into a chronic one.

i once did 150 pullups in one session.. then 4 days later did the same thing. and boom i got exactly what you are describing. so i backed off. and it went away. if you want to do this a long time need to learn to listen to your body
