second workout of the day?

Punt

WHats the best recipe for the second workout in the day? I normally work out 1.5 hours in the morning (45 minutes weights, 45 minutes cardio). Sometimes I get the opportunity to return to the gym in the evening, but I don't want to throw off my schedule so what routine should I do? I mean, if I do shoulders in the morning, should I also do shoulders in the evening, or should I just stick to cardio for workout #2?

Any thoughts?

If your going to the gym twice a day, I would just spilt the cardio and the lifting. I don't think, for the average person, 2X a day weight training would be all the effective.

Thanks for the feedback. The thing is that I cannot plan for 2x workouts. I usually don't have time, other than the morning, but every once in a while I get an unexpected opportunity, and I thought that adding another workout would be the best way to spend the time. I guess thats not necessarily the case. Hmmmmm

I do something like this. Instead of being in the gym 50-60mins at one time, I like to go to the gym 2times and both around 20-25mins in duration. I'll do something like chest in first 20mins and triceps in the next 20mins later on in the day. Works great for me because it raises the intensity for the second workout.

In your case, I would just split the cardio and weight training though like thx mentioned.

well if you could plan it, and knew alot about your body, periodized load, etc. then you could use it effectively.

In your case i wouldn't mess w/ it but nevertheless you could try it and see how you progress. Afterall this is all a learning experience.
