seated twists....

So is the seated twist good for tightening the obliques or just make your waist bigger??
Lot of people says when u do high reps like 50-100 with no weight just a bar then it should tighten your obliques.......what all of you think about this theory/exercise??

As long as you are not using any weights your waist size will remain the same or trim down. Seated twists with a broomstick behind your neck is a very good exercise that will get your obliques nice and burning!

nobody has any ideas??

i wouldnt do them bud. one of my best the groomsmen in my wedding is in school for physical therapy. he says that you should never turn your head to left and right (like trying to look behind you) for stretching. also the spine is not a joint designed to rotate left to right, even though it can. so i dont do these.

if you want a subsitute...... hold a dumbell in each hand or a cable in one and do side bends. if you dont want to thicken the muscle.... use less weight and go for reps, if you want to build strength for stability or a big squat or dead, then use heavy weight low reps.

i hope that helps.

when doing twists always stare straight ahead, you can twist safely as long as your head dosn't follow your body.

Here are some exercises for the obliques

1. Side Crunches

2. Side Leg Raises

3. Side bends

4. Medicine Ball touches

5. Tornado Ball

6. Russian Twists

IronLion do u think the side bend really helps??
also when I just wanna tone my obliques how high should I go in reps??50...100??for how many sets??moderate or light weight??
Sorry for the questions....I appreciate your help!
