Sassy Round 2: Fit for Figure

Sassy69 said:
Aug 16 05 --

OK after thinking about it (i.e. not doing) for a while, I finally made a plan for a "sprint workout". I still haven't found a track / field anywhere around my house so I opted for my front door. Gotta watch this cuz I am prone to shin splints from yrs of track practice in the halls at my school (track starts in March, snow doesn't leave until June....). And just for a twist, coming from up nort', its now 77 degrees ,89% humidity as the sun is coming up. Yuk. Empty stomach run. I'd probably ralf if I ate & ran. Amazingly no side cramps or anything this morning :)

Below is the scene of the debauchery.

Workout: (mind you the last time I did this would be June, 1982....)

Warm up-- run the front stairs 10x (see stairs)

Sprints -- 10 x about 50 yrs --- up a slight incline (see road). (sprint up, walk back)

Goal is to run to the top of that hill 10x -- about 100 yds w/ a significant slope starting about 1/2 way up.

This is in addition to my usual 1-2 x 45 min low impact cardio, "warm ups" (4 x 60 walking lunges, 4 x 30 step ups, 50/40/30/20 weighted sissy squats w/25lb plate, 4 x 40 steps calf raises - walking on toes w/ 2 x 35 lb plates ) + the training session due joour (split: quads, shoulders + bis, back + hams, chest + tris) and posing.

Should be very interesting. I've had this thought in my mind that despite the size of my calves, the split is not going to pop out unless I add some sort of "slow twitch" training to my regimen because it is almost all power moves or steady state stuff. I will note however that those walking calf thingies are starting to show the split. Seems I hold alot of water in my calves as well.

I'm about 6 1/2 weeks out from show date.

Otherwise diet is on, training is on, probably slackign a bit on cardio, suits are on order, shoes are being practiced in, revamping my BB routine a bit for better presentation and just generally enjoying being able to start from the baseline of my last show instead of dealign w/ my natural fat deposits....

All I would ask for would be less humidity (Georgia in Aug ain't the time to start outdoor training...) and less chance of shin splints.

Aug 17 05 -

Well.... I was ok last nite but this morning, OMG. Can you say SHIN SPRINTS????? My shins HURTTTTT! I may have to move my sprint schedule down to 1-2 x/ week to start & just see where it goes.

Stay tuned.....

Your sprint workout sounds like an awesome addition to your training. Sorry to hear about the shin splints. I also have the same problem. It really sucks because I enjoy running and definitely see results when I add running to my cardio schedule. I also had to run through the halls in high school for winter track practice. Do you think we really could still be seeing the effects of that? I have pretty much given up on running because of the nagging pain of shin splints. Let me know if you come up with anything that seems to help. Good luck. You really do always inspire me with your dedication and motivation.

LOL --- unfortunately this has been a problem since the early days and there isn't much I've been able to do over the years to deal w/ it.

Sassy69 said:
Don't hold your breath. I suffered from these when I was a spry 15 yrs old. 30 yrs didn't improve that.

Well I wish you told me this earlier!! I passed out for a good hour!! Sheesh!

LOL!

I"ll work with the sprints as my shins allow and also dependent on how my training morphs starting next week, entering the magic 6 weeks out phase....

Heyyyyyy! Since our shows are on the same day - I'm with ya here!!

whoooo!!!

That's pretty much it.

Had to toss the sprints because the resulting shin splints have not improved w/ age and are just as crippling as they were the last time I tried running on somethign other than a treadmill (circa 1987).

training:
- Switched from 50/40/30/20/ sets to 12/8/6/20 sets.
- Cardio - upped to 3 sessions per day instead of 2. Currently at 35 min each session, but that's going to increase up to 1 hr each session. Wohoo.

Diet:
Before AM Cardio: 4 egg whites
After Cardio, Tues & Thurs also prior to training: 6 egg white after cardio
9 am - 6 oz chicken + veggie
11 am - 50 g carb (potato)
12 noon - 5 oz steak + veggie
2 pm - 50 g carb (potato)
3 pm - 5 oz chicken + vegggie
6 pm - 6 oz fish + veggie
6:30 pm - training + cardio
9 pm - die.

Gonna be a long 3 weeks.

On the lighter side, my suits should be done by the end of this week.

OMG I do not envy you, I think if I would have to do 3 sessions of cardio in 1 damn day, I would shoot myself.... :worried:

Sending you lots and lots of good luck vibes :)

Same here......can't wait to see pics of the suits.....

Well suits delayed until mid next week as the amazing suit artiste is on taking a nice Labor Day vacation (and she earns it!).

Well, got a small reprieve on the 3 x cardio sessions - still doing 2/day but 3/day over the holiday and see how that goes.

Training has gone to focusing on burning the glycogen. OMG is that glycogen burning. We went from 12/8/6/20 reps to 4 x 25, starting at something that equals about my 5 rep max but going for 25 w/ some spots as needed. These last 2 days it looks something like this:

Yesterday: chest & tris
Warm up:
- Walking lunges: 4 x there & back (= about 60 steps per lap)
- Step ups: 4 x 30 steps
- Sissy squats w/ 10 lb weight - 4 x 25
- "Walking Calf raises" -- walking on your toes, carrying a 45 lb plate in each hand - 4 x 30 steps
Training:
- Hammer Strength Chest Press: 45/25, 35/25, 25/25, 15/25
- Hammer Strength Upright chest press: same
- Lying DB press: 35/25 25/25 15/25 10/25
- Pec dec: 65/25 55/25 45/25 35/25
- Rope cable tricep press: 100/25 90/25 80/25 70/25
- die
Cardio = 2 x 40 min treadmill @ angle 8, speed 3

Today: quads
Warm up:
- same as above
Training:
- Squats: bar/12 x 2 to warm up the ol' knees, 135/25 115/25 95/25 75/25 - die
- Leg press: 4 plates/25 3 plates/25 2 plates/25 1 plate / 25
- Hack Squat: 2 plates each side/25 1 plate + 2 plates/25 1 plate each side/25 1 plate 1 side/25
- Leg ext: 135/25 115/25 100/25 80/25
-die
Cardio: 2 x 40 min treadmill (angle 5 speed 3.5)

These are crazy workouts & you are drop down dead dead when its over.

23 days left :)

Well Im' up at 2:27 am and staring at the ceiling. One drawback of cardio at night, even w/ just 1 Cardio Breeze is sometimes u just can't fall asleep. This weekend 3 days of 3 x cardio. I survived it. Actually started thinking that 45 min walking is not all that big a deal. The biggest challenge I've had is getting it all in during the week - seems I'm always hauling ass between home ,work & the gym.

Getting philosophical here for a moment - I"m also not enjoying my time in the gym anymore. I haven't gotten up and had coffee & breakfast w/ persons / people I like to be aroudn in months. I vaguely remember a fantastic morning, though rainy, in JAX w/ a certain JAX-ite & a certain Icelander and really enjoying an omelette & a big honkin cup of coffee. That was back in January.

I wouldnt' say I'm burnt on the gym or competition stuff. I'm just tired of it. I've relied on this stuff to fill my time while I'm getting acclimated to a new job, new city, etc. But now its taking up all my free time and I feel like the important stuff is starting to pass by while I'm logging miles on the treadmill.

Not sure what happens after Sept 24. I've got a shitload of muscle and frankly I see myself doing more "relaxing " cardio. What's the next goal? I've already done all the heavy lifting I care to do. Done BB shows. Gained weight. Lost weight. Gained weight. Lost weight. Reshaped the muscle I have.

I'd like to enjoy time in the gym w/ an important person and enjoy life more.

Ok. Done ruminating.

I still can't sleep.

Fug.

At least its a short week. :)

..Upon waking up & oversleeping this morning (moving trainign to PM instead of AM...) I also remember a very happy breakfast w/ everyone who came to ATL on the morning after my show. Definitely good times!

Sassy,

I feel like I can relate but for different reasons and what I've done is made all my physical activity to be outdoors and with new people. I'm kayaking, surfing, attempting to trail ride on a mountain bike (busted my ass already) and I found a row team out here in the boonies. What is nice about it is that you meet new people that you have a common interest in and you get sick amounts of exercise (and numerous black and blues).

It's a thought.

:)

Trust me, its a been a thought. I've been eyeing this rock climbing gym for quite a while. But right now, my show activity is all-consuming and, as I always say, you either do a show or you don't. I'm 18 days out & well over $2K invested in this show excluding the travel costs. I guess I can suck it up another 3 weeks :)

I'm just off-gassign I guess. I'm feelign very landlocked in GA and also haven't been intellectually stimulated by my job since I started. Hard to find "where you fit" sometimes. I guess I'm still looking.

Hope we can do it again someday.... :rose:

Sassy,

At least you are able to see where you are and where you are going. Shit, I never know what I am doing one day to the next.
Your awesome! Your hard work will always pay off. Its never easy either.
I f'd up truly on my diet this weekend. And boy did I ever pay for it. I weas allergic to something and I still feel the symptoms. That will teach me. But ya know...you get bored and shit.
You are just taking walks for your cardio? Do you mix it up at all to make it any less boring?

All cardio is inside right now. Anythign outside is on concrete & means I'm crippled w/ shin splints. I've got a precor in my basement, a membership at one of those 24 hr key-access gyms 2 blocks from my house & my gym, a Gold's.

I'm afraid I have no clue what I want to be when I grow up. The problem is that I've grown up.

I hear ya screaming on that one....I've grown up too & have NO CLUE what I want to do....

*sigh*

Damn it! Im grown up to. What is wrong with us? Wait...maybe I know...we spend all of our time in the gym and we wanna look good and look good and feel good and so on. Who wants anything else? So we stay our asses in the gym and make time for nothing else. Then when we do all of a sudden make time for something else we feel guilty and out of line. lol Okay...time to go to the gym. :D

Wow....I read your first post from today and really can relate. After 7yrs of Comp., I tried to get back into it with a different type of lifting sport - powerlifting. Its funny, because all I really needed was to choose a non-lifting lifestyle for awhile. I don't mean non-active - just something a bit different (out of the gym). I think you are in the mode of wanting to reconnect with your life, living it to the fullest every day. Breakfast with friends or whatever. When its not fun anymore - you know its time for some kind of change.

I wish you all the best in this next comp., and then relaxing thereafter. :)

LOL -- actually this is a little bigger than that. I go to the gym because it keeps me grounded. I go to the gym alot when my personal and / or professional life are lacking. I spent a lot of time in school & tryign to get to "some place" when I'm grown up, but lately that some place is further away than it was when I started this big fat trip called "growing up". I spend almost all my spare time in the gym now because of the massive lacking in my personal & professional life.

But I will also keep this whole thing tempered by saying that I think it all starts to look worse right before the big break too. Hell, I'm 18 days out from my next show. Get to see some important people in my life. Got a spot at the Olympia this year. Got some really kewl stuff on the horizon, etc. But also need to get down on what I am really looking for. I've got some short term opportunities but the long term still looms.

My really short term opportunities involve a very close & personal relationship w/ a treadmill... like 5 h 43 min from now :)

Thx Qs! Just like changing your diet up, your goals, your thoughts and your larger "life cycles" need to change as well.

The funny thing though, is just when I think I'm really gonna either lose it or just toss it all, things start to come together & make sense and it is actually fun. The secret is realize the fun times and learn how to make them the important part of it all.

Dayum ... Gettin deep here girls. Makes me want to get a glass of wine....

(PHUCK not on my diet....)

Are we ever gonna see some pics young lady? :qt:

the cardio 3x /day is only on weekends. 2x/ day otherwise. All I do is work, sleep, train or drive to or from one of these. 17 days left!

wow girlie your dedication is AWESOME!! it sounds like you are at that low carb stress point where you could rip all your hair out.. just keep your eye on the goal you will get through it!!! just remember that feeling on stage.... you rock girlie!!!!

Well, as you can see this thread has been sporadic at best. I got my posing suits earlier this weekend, but at the same time also made the decision to not do this show on 9/24 because I've got a much larger project going on that I'm finding is sucking ALL of my free time and I'm fairly burnt out on competition dieting right now.

So next goal right now really just puts "show quality muscles" out to 5 weeks from now at the Olympia. I've got booth duty at one of the sponsor tables and I'm damn excited about it!

Hey lady! That is SO cool you'll be at the Olympia! Neat! Too bad about the 9/24 show however.

This project is MUCH bigger than the Olympia, but the O is definitely a kewl part of it!

It was nice to take a breather from all the training & diet tho.... been working all weekend. I suspect I'm going to be antsy to get off my rear & back into the gym tomorrow though.

Food-wise, I'd also like to note that my muthafuggin refrigerator is broken still -- the freezer no longer freezes and its another 4 days before the earliest appointment I can get w/ the repair guy. Which means another $300 worth of steak, chicken & fish is probably shot to hell. (This is the 3rd time I've had to call GE about this.. new fridge too. Damn. They better replace that POS this time.)

Never enough time in the day...

That sux! How long have you had it?

New November 2004. Basically its a faulty appliance but GE makes you go through this whole sequence of fix attempts before they will just replace it.

What a PITA!! I remember when yours went on the fritz ~ last Thanksgiving too....

and of course I have to go off site for training for 2 days so I can't even work from home until thursday to wait for the dipshit to come & tell me it doesn't work and they will order a new one which will take another week.

OK so .. .I had to go back 3 pages to find this. Big changes afoot for me. I was scheduled to do my first figure competition in North Carolina on Sept 24. Two weeks prior to that I opted to bail out of that show due to basically working 2 jobs -- my regular day job and a second project that has evolved into s new job.

I will ask you all to bear w/ me as I continuously make shameless plugs for this - it isn't a money making scheme that costs you, the internet viewer, any money. Instead this is a production company built on the joining of three very dynamic people who had the right combination of cash financing, contacts & influence in the bodybuilding & fitness world and the drive to help give back to the fitness community while trying to give those who compete with only their passion & drive for no-money opportunities, more opportunity.

OK, so back to me. Also around the time of my scheduled show, I stated in no uncertain terms that I couldn't keep my day job & continue w/ the RTP stuff. Upon getting the OK to be hired full time, I gave notice at my day job and happily announced that no, sorry I can't give you a complete 2 weeks' notice and frankly I can only give you 1/2 days for one week after which you can catch me in Vegas at the Olympia.

So, having officially jettisoned the job that moved me to Atlanta and gave me about as much inspiration as a botched root canal, I'm now working full-time (and we're talking FULL TIME!) on something that I think will turn into some really neat stuff that, amazingly, combines the stuff I'm trained & experienced in both as a professional computer geek as well as an amateur bodybuilder. AND I get paid!

One downside and irony is that I now officially work "in" the industry and also work at an office that shares a marquee w/ Gold's Gym and yet I havent' actually done cardio in more than a week. I'd say my diet has gone to hell due to stress from trying to stay on top of both jobs as well as the "freedom" of coming off a competitoin diet after literally 10 months of competition prep. Hell yea I'm gonna enjoy some damn food!

So now, HOPEFULLY as things settle down and I can stop pulling my 20 hr days, I will be hitting the gym & cleaning up my diet with a bit more structure. I'm flying out to Las Vegas to work the 2 booths we have set up as sponsors of the Olympia Weekend. Despite the hours of work, I've had the suprisingly enjoyable opportunity to do two brief interviews w/ IFBB legends Flex Wheeler & Shawn Ray who have recently signed on to work with Road to the Pros as we enter the final 4 weeks before the NPC Nationals here in Atlanta.

For the purposes of this thread I hope to get my shit back in order & not look like the "off season power lifter" in the booths next week and strike a happy combination of excitement, fun & progress.

:) Let the adventure begin!

Well, today was a bust. I came to teh gym (actually the office next to the gym) at around 9 am today. I'm still here at 2:30 am. Fuggg. Trying to get things in order for the Olympia.

The good news is that the boss is gone tomorrow & I might actually get a few personal things done. Maybe even get some sleep.... ;)

Thanks Shadow! (Its an adventure....) The good news is that I'm off my junk-eating. I haven't had any issue w/ appetite or anythign - just stress eating.

Hey V -- we are still shopping it around to a US distributor but we have some leads. Can't tell you any show schedule yet because we aren't even half done w/ the filming. My whole point in shouting out about it online is because it is happening NOW. How often do you get to get updates in real time about things like when they film "The Real World" or somthing like that? If you have a chance to get to the Olympia or the NPC Nationals in ATL, you will also see the real time filming going on. But the show itself -- needs to be in the can first.

I guess I was a little eager :) Congrats on the new job , and happy to hear that you found something you enjoy , that is very rare. This I know , because I spent many years at "let-me-out-of-here-before-I-go-off" jobs , and have finally been in a job for the last 18 months , that I look forward to coming into :)

:) Don't worry -- its the first thing anyone asks because that's what u do w/ a tv show -- you watch it. But this is a unique opportunity that we can really only communicate to the online muscle communities and make the most of the two major shows that occur in the BB world.

Wow this is exciting!!! Sounds like a great job and very demanding! Like that silly little guy Tony Little says "You can Do it!"

I'm so happy for you that you have a job in a field that you like... not so happy that you're stress eating though Miss Sassy pants :)

Thx girl! The good news is that the stress eating is mostly done with. I was also pretty much "post show" as well - everything except the last 2 weeks of prep.

Right now my challenge is to get into the gym at the hotel in Vegas. Bastards charge $22.50 / day if you train in the mornign & $10 if you only train in the afternoon - its like a day pass.

OMG!!!!! I TRAINED TONITE!!!!! AND DID CARDIO!!!!!! OMG OMG OMG!

(Its only been 3 weeks...)

So yea, I actually got off the ol' caboose and hit the racks. Leg nite! They tell me I'll feel this one on Sunday....

My excuse ... I started working for a startup production company with filming starting before I even left my regular day job, thus working about 20 hrs / day for 2 weeks. Obviously no time to hit the gym (not that I missed it...). And then 1 week in Vegas for the Olympia. Bag of tuna for breakfast, pieces of protein bar as I was able to scrounge them from various booths at the Expo and then a big fat dinner. They tell me I enjoyed the vino a bit too.... (I gotta be careful .. memories & evidence you know...)

So after sleepign for nearly 28 hrs straight after we got back, got things settled a bit & worked out the stiff neck I got from the plane ride home (couldnt' turn to the left until today...). Back on it. Regular "diet" starts tomorrow. Regular training starts tomorrow. Regular cardio starts tomorrow.

So anyway, I pretty much work 7 days / week right now for the show. We're in the last 4 weeks of filming & coming up on the Nationals FAST. Based on some photos of me I saw at the "O", its def time to get back on the wagon....

So I started w/ a 2 day "cleanse" diet w/ fruit until noon and 3 protein + veggie meals until 6, and then fruit again until bedtime. Today slipped a bit at lunch because we had a meeting that ran thru lunch & I was violently starving to the point of getting fuzzy in the head, so we checked out a Mexican restaurant in the same strip mall as my office. It was ok. I hate that when I save up for a meal like that (haven't had Mexican food since the day after my show in May) and it isn't nearly as good as you remember. Thank god I didn't bother w/ a margarita .. even the diet coke was weak.

So anyway. Just wanted to share.

Oh yea, last nite I restocked my Glucorell, Sesamax & Cardio Breeze. YAY AF STORE!

Tonite I'm uploading a redesigned Road to the Pros website and waiting to finish up our final list of competitors and dive into the final 4 weeks to the Nationals.

And for anyone reading this -- if you can make it to Atlanta for the NPC Nationals, do it! Looks like we've got a small EF meetup started!

Well, I had to dig down a few threads to find this. Gym time has been sporadic at best despite workign right next to the gym... Diet has been sporadic at best too. My head just isn't in it right now and I am working alot of hours. In the thread above I noted I was uploading a redesign of my website. That was Friday nite. At 6 am Sat I was still uploading it. That managed to screw up my sleep schedule for most of the week. And now I'm just not into it. Was trying to get a massage scheduled today because I am hold ALL of my stress in my lats, traps and neck. I can feel it but I can't really do anythig about it myself. My original schedule w/ the massage therapist got bumped by 30 min & now everything is starting to get in the way as everyone's schedule starts to slip a few minutes beyond what they originally said they were gonna do, meaning I can't leave the office.

All I can say is ... eventually I'll get things in order. One good thing is when it is quiet I'm able to knock off some of the tedious "organizing" work I've been trying to get into place. I'm much happier when I'm organized!

(damn I had a whole thing written & then my wireless connection dumped & i lost it...)

Ok, so repeat..

Its been a month. Egad. After the parents have come & gone for Thanksgiving I have a little more time to myself & some motivations now. The most immediate one is an invitation to spend New Yrs in Buenos Aires. After that is the Arnold Classic Weekend. So based on those I'm setting these tentative goals & schedule:

Dec 1-29 - Train, diet - focus on cardio, stretching, fat loss
Dec 23-26 - xmas at the 'rents new condo
Dec 29-Jan 3-4 - Buenos Aires - drinking, dancing, loving, living :) (... memories & evidence type pix!)
End of Feb - NPC Atlantic (local ATL show - I think it's also a national qualifier) - Figure, possibly BB (Cuz its a really small show)
Mar 3-5 - Arnold Classic & Expo weekend - we're title sponsors & I ain't gonna be the fat one there. (hmmmm great photo shoot op too.... Flex, are you reading this???)
April 29 - NPC Jr USAs -- figure

Hmmm, also just noticed that the NPC Eastern Seaboard is 2 weeks later - same one I did last yr - might do that too.

Beyond that, just maintain, no idea additional shows.

Did 30 min cardio & a full body workout (excluding calves) last nite just to see what works / what doesn't. Everything started w/ warmup 20 reps, then 3-4 sets of 12, start mid weight, increase to my old typical heavy weights. Everything strong except chest. My lower back problems tend to show themselves on dead lifts but also by experiencing muscle cramps when I do chest presses, esp on the incline bench.

Biggest problem is still my psoas muscle - very tight.

More detail later :)

Thx girls!

I'm not sure about my training plans yet but I'm going w/ a diet that one of my fav Bev Int'l ladies gave me last yr for a while -- going low carb all this week because I'm just not that hungry, want to lose some of the water from the shit diet & because I'm still easing into the training I don't really need the cals so bad right now.

Meal 1: 8 am (lol I can wake up late w/ my current job)
1 whole egg + 3 egg whites
5 oz lean beef, fish or turkey
(this week - no oatmeal)

Meal 2: 11 am
4 oz chicken
5 strawberries

Meal 3: 2 pm
4 oz fish/turkey/lean beef
2 c salad
4 oz sweet potato

Meal 4: 5 pm
4 oz chicken
5 strawberries -- today this is replaced w/ 2 c salad + 1 tbsp vinegar & oil

*train*

Meal 5: 8 pm
4-5 oz lean beef/fish/turkey
2 c salad + vinegar & oil

Expect to modify this as my training schedule gets solidified.

Oh no, please don't say that. I felt that first twinge about two weeks ago and it gets a little stronger each time I do presses. :worried:

Good luck with the log Sass - can't wait to learn from the expert!! ;)

If you are having trouble that's lasted that long --- what's changed? New workout? Sleeping funny? Not stretching out enough?

My excuse - first I haven't been in the gym for 3 months and second I have an existing lower back issue that gets aggravated from lack of use. I expect that whole issue will disappear after about a week in the gym w/ increased stretching & cardio.

I can't really plan that far out yet - esp if my goals are to hit 2 shows 2 months earlier --- but we'll have to see :) We're also planning to be filming out of state June - July so I couldn't even say where I'll be at that point. LOL keeps me on my toes huh?

What time is our flight leaving?

lol

It would be fun huh? I'm going on a friend's buddy pass so apparently its an "on-call' flight - that could get a bit hairy being New Yrs, but ATL is THE Delta hub so it shouldn't be too bad.

Well, keep the date in the back of your mind......you won't need to pay for a hotel and we could kick DE's a$$ together!!

Sassy my next comp plans is April 29th woot woot we will be riding out this journey together. Can't wait to see your progress again!

Think I may have found the problem. While doing drop sets of cable kickbacks today I have to rotate the handle out to get it past my thigh but still keep my elbow close to my side. When I rotate it, it pulls on the outside part of my lower back, and that's where it bothers me on the presses. Think it's back to the DB kickbacks for me and see if that makes a difference.

(And now, I'll quit hijacking your thread... ;) )

Actually as of today I just found out the target date for final filming of Road to the Pros Season 2 is now in NYC instead of Vegas and the competition is NPC Team Universe / Figure Nationals on exactly July 15 :(

LOL - my schedule changes daily so I'm just stayin' loose right now. My two hardcore goals remain: 1) not be fat in Buenos Aires and 2) not be fat at the Arnold. Everythign else has to fit into that schedule :)

We KNOW that ain't gonna' happen! Pics, pics, pics!!!!!!! Don't forget the pics here and there! :)

Hey Sassy, what booth will you be at at the Arnold? We go to the expo every year and already have our tickets to the mens finals. I will have to stop by and see ya if we can get thru the crowd. :)

12/7/05 - obviously no daily updates or anything... time not permitting right now.

Two days in the gym now, no excessive soreness & working up 30 min, 40 min, 45 min tonite of cardio. Definitely going to be a bigger lean towards cardio & diet I think. As far as lifting, I've been doing a mental inventory of what I think needs work to balance out the "look" w/ a figure comp in mind. My general biggest issue is I'm "too big", but that will be part of the whole cardio & diet blitz.

Here's my personal analysis of what needs to get addressed aside from generally losing more bodyfat, esp in the waist, abs & legs:
- my biceps I think are amazing (I'm happy w/ them anyway), but relative to those, my triceps blow.
- I *LOVE* my rear double bicep pose (see avi), but my lat spread sux.
- My ass needs *LOTS* of work - genetically wide & chronologically saggy
- Want more shape in the hams / ass area
- My waist in general needs to downsize but my abs need to upsize.

I'm still kicking around a workout schedule right now, but though focus in going to be on cardio, I'm doing the following:

- the evil "warm ups" - step ups, walking lunges & sissy squats. Every day probably.
- looking at 2 days /week off lifting (not cardio) but looking at some pilates classes or a 3 DVD set I just bought.
- really focus on tricep burnout.
- abs 3x / week. - I'm trying to get off my weighted ab workout & more on the Shadow-style scissor kicky thing.
- Not sure what to do about my lat spread. Might just focus on making my waist smaller since there's no real "rear lat spread" in figure. It might just be my lat spread posing that sux too - so I'll be looking at that as well. My back is big enough.

Planned split (all include at least 1 cardio session / day):
Chest & Tris & Abs
Quads & some hams
Cardio + Pilates + Abs
Shoulders, Bis, Calves
Back, Glutes, Hams & Abs
Cardio & pilates or something
Cardio & pilates or something

LOL So we'll see how it goes....

Diet is good though!

Shoulders, Bis, Calves, Abs

I  your AVI! I think everyone does!

Shadow's scissor kicks super'd with bicycles KICKS MY ASS (er, ABS), always has, and still does :)

I am also looking to add some size to my abs while I have a little more padding to work. I will be adding weighted Declines and the like (but nothing crazy with obliques) to see if that helps unflatten my stomach LOL need more Protruding abbage :)

Good Luck with the warm ups :)

I'll be at the Arnold if I'm not in FL that weekend for Mr. B.

LMAO! Wow what changes.

Bailing on the trip to BA because I'm anticipating some huge piles of work for work. And that's fine. I'm not really into traveling internationally by myself at the moment. Just not the best time to do this in general for me. Had a "small" re-org at the office, something about "removing an impediment". Still waiting to see where the dust settles. But its a good thing & perhaps my shitball attitude about all of it will change immediately.

Training non-existent. Did some cardio last week. Right now just stress & frustration. After a meeting tomorrow hoping to see the "new direction".

Otherwise just trying to stay warm. Who knew it got cold in the "Deep South".

I did get all my xmas shopping done & stuff shipped tho!

Your training and life sound like mine right now. Especially the shitball attitude. haha, gotta love it though. :D

The good news is we expect the chaos style excitement to pass by tomorrow and get back into a productive healthy thing by Monday.

My diet's been decent lately. And may the gods smile upon AF Store, Ulter & Macro for turning me on to SesaPURE!

wow Sassy talking about serious training!! wow, I look up to you big time! Managing a job and training like this is absolutely superb! Keep up all the great work!!

OK the new avi is me trying to set my mind in the right place. And I want to throw out some MAJOR PROPS again to habitualhealth's new avi - god damn girl -- that is what a consistent diet & training will get for you!

I went to see King Kong tonite (I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS MOVIE!!!!!) and then snuck into the Aeon Flux show across the hall (mediocre movie - sort of reminds me of Logan's Run, if anyone remembers that...). I did that to clear my head and eat some damn popcorn. I've got "the meeting" tomorrow to get the company back on track and I expect to get the feeling of diving back into the exciting part of what my job was supposed to be. Also, as the location of our office will be in transition for a a few weeks and I won't be near my current gym, I think I'm gonna look at some other gyms & explore some other trainers. (I did get a vague offer from Flex Wheeler to give me a new diet after the new year.... but we'l see where that goes...)

I'm not sure if I can do the target show I had in mind on Feb 25, but I still have a goal of being well on the way to competition shape for the Arnold the following week. I have a feeling that my shit ball attitude will be jettisoned by the end of the day tomorrow. I am very excited to see a new direction professionally & personally. Very excited. I am tired of the ups & downs I've experienced professionally & personally over the last 5 yrs - and these have also be reflected in my weight gain / loss and my ability to do shows & recover from shows. I desperately look forward to maintaining a reasonable regular weight & bodyfat year round.

A few changes as a result of the upheavel at my job.
- not going to Buenos Aires for New Years - just not mentally into it & I see a SHITLOAD of work in my lap once the company direction gets set.
- not sure about hitting the figure show on Feb 25, but still plan to do figure.
- will probably explore a new gym in the next week or so
- looking for a new trainer. (please no more friggen drama...)

... I want to ENJOY training again.

I feel all this stuff coming in the next 24 hours.

Updates tomorrow! (later today I mean)

Love the new avi.

Hope things settle for you.

Bugger about Buenos Aires - I was looking forward to hearing about that!

Thx girls - it means a lot to have a place to unload and also to talk to myself while I"m waiting for not only the situation to change but also see if I can reset my head in a better place.

I'm not the least bit concerned about not going to BA. Other more meaningful things on the horizon.

I'm running out today to check out a couple new gyms that will hopefully have the ambiance I am looking for. I think I will find that at one of them. A couple of our local pro-level athletes train there. Who knows, I might even find some "purpose" there. :)

Had the big meeting yesterday. Good things coming but lots of work as well. And I (being my project mgr type self) see a whole shit load of detail that hasn't even been touched yet. I'm gonna need that gym for a good daily stress relief!

So today I went to check out the 2 gyms I am considering. The first is a new World Gym about 2 miles from my house (no hiways or thick traffic or anything!). It's amazing. All new eqpt, huge gym, spin room, boxing room (no ring, but bags), cardio theater -- not just a bunch of tv's, but rather a bunch of cardio machines lined up w/ each having its own private cable tv screen. The "cardio theater" is a room w/ a bunch of cardio machines and a movie screen where they play movies. Just like sitting in a theater, except its cardio. The guy said they were gonna do scheduled cardio when there were new movie releases. Amazing. There's also a chiropractor / massage place & a Starbucks & smoothie place right next door. The prices go up after New Year's so now's a good time to jump on it. There are a couple trainers who have competed. There were maybe 5 people in there today but I guess more will be coming since they've only been open 2 weeks.

The other gym has been around a long time & is the place you go for 'hardcore'. I know some people who train there & there are national competitors & pros there. The price is about comparable but the facilities really don't touch the World Gym. They are complete but older. Also its not as close to my house. Its probably a good 20 min drive. Could be longer during rush hour. Its also a little bit off the route to the new office.

Dam. This is gonna be a tough decision. I want a gym w/ some "ambiance" and a lot of people - that's my social hour dammit. But not far away. Its hard enough getting around in ATL. Who wants to go to the gym when its a 30 min drive??

I decided to go relax my brain w/ another movie. I *HIGHLY* recommend "The Family Stone" is you want a good xmas show. Its not too much of a chick flick, but its good. Then I snuck into Narnia. That was good too. :)

So, the decision is on the table. Waiting to see about the price I can get for the hardcore place ( I know a guy w/ connections...)

owwww Miss Sassy pants I like the sounds of that first gym, the cardio theater would be the thing that would have me sold. lol I think I would be able to stay all day, instead of fight myself for 15 minutes :lmao:

Good luck with your decision!

Thx girl. Its gonna be a tough one. I've been in 3 gyms now that just have no sense of fun since I've been in ATL. But damn that's a nice gym.

That first gym sounds mega nice. I have never heard of the cardio theatre concept before...but that's pretty nifty!

It's going to be a tough decision. In the past, I always went with the social gym but this past year, I signed up with a smaller, family-owned one and really like it. Everyone knows my name and I'm very comfortable there. It's like Cheers! :) I also feel accountable when I don't go because I know people notice and ask me where I was.

ps - thanks for the Family Stone recommendation. I'm now going to try to catch it this week.

Its gonna be a hard one because my gym is my social place. I'll be working from home for a couple months & even once we get the new office set up, its a very small group of people and I will still be fairly autononous. I really hate being in a new city. So hard to get to know people on more than a "just passing thru" basis. I've been doing that for at least 2 yrs since I've move around so much and done travel-based work.

But I'm also looking for serious lifters because I am not learnign any new stuff. I don't care to train just by myself in a big empty gym and I'm not interested in paying some trainer a crapload of money to count my reps. I want to be around serious competition people. But at the same time, if I have to go a long way to get to the gym & sit in traffic, its going to be a pain getting there.

Blah. But we'll see. :)

Hey sassy,

Good luck w/ picking the gym!! i wonder if there's a 24 hr gym around here! wow! Great idea considering that i work out late sometimes!

I was reading something about a website/avi on your thread here but somehow I keep missing (?) the link?? Do you have a website w/ photos etc?? You train sooo hard I'd love to see more photos of you for motivation!!! ;-)
