Right Arm Lagging Behind......

SJUFootball

New member
Hi everyone I am new to the website and I am working on getting a pic in my avatar. Anyways, whenever I get towards the last couple reps on any chest or shoulder exercise, my right arm lags behind my left badly. It gets to the point at the end of barbell bench that the bar is up on the left side and all the way down on the right side. I play football in college and my trainer does not know what to do but I do not think it is serious enough to have surgery on. Any ideas/suggestions on possible routes to take in trying to get that right arm back up to strength? Thanks a lot

yikes! I hope you have a collar on that bar!

I would use DBs on your lifts.. Use the same weight & have the weaker side outpace the stronger side & it will even out.

Got the same problem with a lagging left bi and tri. My arm looks normal but almost feels deformed when I lift or play sports but it has nothing to do with my coordination. I try to to do one arm at a time for any exercise that requires my arms but it isnt helping much. I really am starting to think I have a deformed arm. I have been planning on seeing a doctor to see if they can tell me something.

I've had something similar happen to me twice after layoffs. It was as though my triceps on one side had lost 50% of their strength. I'd try to press on a bench and one side would fly upwards while the other side might as well have been glued to the bench.

I just tried to do a little extra for the flagging muscles while not doing too much for the stronger side since I didn't want to end up with imbalance. They sorted themselves out after about a month.

From your post it seems as though you simply have a slightly stronger side. Just throw in a little extra at the end of your workout for the weak side and it should catch up over time.

BB's sometimes help lagging arms because with 1 arm up it will help bring your other arm to getting the bar to the top... DBs are good or just going light for awhile will help build some extra muscle usually
