Reg Parks old wrokout

New member
the original old school program done by reg park is this:

Bench 5x5
Curls 4x6
Seated behind the neck press 4x6
bent Over Rows 4x6
squat 5x5
deads 5x5

Lots of intensity there. I'm sure his lower back was fine. The stabilizer muscles were strengthened from squats and deadlifts I'm sure. That's all you need.

yep :)

although it may be better to do 1 arm dumbell rows instead of the BB bent over rows

makes better sense physiologically speaking....

How is that, Omega? Less stress on the lower back?

well I figured the squats involve the stabilizer muscles of your lower back and abs, they are isometrically worked, and then when you throw in the deads you do direct work through a full range of motion,

so the bent over BB rows would just work the area again, 1 arm DB rows would actually warm up that area and stretch it out in anticipation for the deads and squats
:)

thats just my opinion

Bent over rows shouldn't stress the lower back if you do them right.

Agreed. Atleast not to significantly IMO. I mean when you bench you stress your Abs to some degree, but not enough to build them.

I like doinf them totally bent over old school arnold style,

not the new way where youback is arched up,

my body like them tyhe other way, the harder the better.......

but for the above type of prgram it does not fit in for me

dumbell bent over rows

I agree that dumbell rows are easier on my back than barbell rows. doing all the work that I do involving my back, I want as little stress on my low back as possible. With my olympic dumbells I can add all the weight I want too.

I'm sorry but that is absolutely terrible for your lower back.

really? :)

I judt did them yesterday with 155 pounds for 4 sets of 12

today I feel like my back is just a little bit stronger

not trying be smart assy, I really feel this way about it

to each his own.......

I have to be honest with ya man, 155 lbs in a barbell row isn't huge weight. Show me a man doing 300-400 lb rows with a rounded lower back and I'll show you a man that will soon need lots of therapy.

Not to mention a man that has incredibly poor form in his rows !!!

I was reading that Reg was one of the first people in his decade/generation to benchpress 500 pounds, im sure there was other numbers such as squat and deadlift i just prolly wasnt paying attention to the article.

he looked good as hell and was mighty strong :)

Supporting any weight in a bent-spinal position is usually not good, it means it's possible the weight is being borne by the spine instead of the erectors. Maintaining a strong arch through a movement is the only way of ensuring the spine don't shear.

That's what I've heard at least.
