r-ALA and Heartburn?

i don't get the heartburn, but i get soooo tired from them...i'm talking borderline comatose. this makes it pretty hard to get through a workout (i take it with my pre-workout oatmeal). just wondering if anyone else gets this feeling and if this is something you just get used to after time?

Mmm - no, no heartburn. Dunno if it's the r-ALA, but I seem to be able to go longer without desperately craving carbs, despite having cut my starchy carbs in half this week. Seem to have more energy than I'm used to having on this number of carbs. Only taking 200mg per day, in the am, with starchy carbs. Might drop it out next week to see if there's any difference.

I also added in Lipoderm this week, though, so the energy could be that ....

Good for you spatts - carbs niiiiice :)

I did have heartburn with it but my stomach was already a mess from prescription pain meds. Make sure that you eat as soon as you take it and maybe try an antacid.

No heartburn here, but I HAVE had heartburn before from using r,s-ALA. You gotta be careful to wash it down VERY well with water...make sure it doesn't catch in your throat.

Two week results so far, no change in bodyweight for me or my partner. We're going another two weeks to test it over a full menstrual cycle since I can't be sure that I wouldn't have ordinarily lost/gained weight in those two weeks.

Noticeable effects:

For me, headaches, weakness, increased thirst, agitiation and trouble sleeping.

You are an EVIL woman MS...I love it!!!! I have started my dad on the r-ala, just had him on regular ala before but the purpose for him is that even though he does hard physical labor so he isn't out of shape he also has a thing for cookies, sweet rolls, pie, cake and he has one of the above 6 times a day, plus ice cream and a shot of blackberry brandy at bedtime....and there is a family history of diabetes. My question is, should he be taking 800-1200mg a day because based on his carb intake that looks to be about the dose if you are doing 100mg per 30g carb.

Start him on 600mg per day...this is the dose most commonly used in type 2 diabetics which works well. He may benefit from taking more-hard to know. Something I am particulalrly keen to look at with ALA is the relative benefits for glycemic control when the carbs are eaten with a meal that's also high in saturated fat (most of the foods you mentioned for your father). Of course, ideally he should just change his eating habits. r-ALA prolly can't protect him from an atrocious diet. In the long term, diabetic management (or prevention) is best accomolished by a combo of lifestyle changes AND glucose lowering drugs such as r-ALA.
