quick question for protein in the middle of the night

i always wake up in the middle of the night, either to take a piss, or just tossing and turning. my last meal is at 1030pm which is either ff cottage cheese or casein protein, and 4 tbsp of natural pb. when i wake up in the middle of the night, should i take a whey shake or a casein shake?

yeah, i like cottage cheese too, but casein stil ony last for about 7 hours, and im already eating 1 tub with 4 tbsp of peanut butter before bed. i also rinse it in a strainer so im only left with the pieces of the actual cheese. i think the white liquid is only whey protein and a lot of salt. the peanut butter mixed in there makes up for the taste. im setting my alarm for 330am to wake up to take a piss and to down a casein real quick, then back to sleep.

If ur consuming it at 3:30, and presuming your having breakfast just 4 hours later or there abouts, any animal source would do I'd suspect (beef, chicken, tuna).

You could always have uncooked chicken for you and just have 100 grams or something

BTW, has your gains improved since implementing this nightly regimen?

chicken at 330 in the morning isnt exactly ideal or something i want to do. it's more of a "wake up, use the bathroom, down a shake, and back to bed. i think of it as 7-8 hours of another "window of opportunity" that i dont want to waste. its just things like setting my alarm for 330am, that will become a part of my daily lifestyle.

as far as gains, i think even if i didnt take the shake, i would still be where im at, but like i said, its all the little things that add up, like rinsing ground beef after browning it, and rinsing cottage cheese. at 153, i max out at 250 on a flat bench press. thats 100 pounds over my bodyweight, so im very impressed with the gains as far as strength. as far as weight, its all time, i cant expect much difference from one day to the next, but every week, i expect to be a bit heavier. i just eat, eat, and eat a shitload of food. all clean foods. no bigmacs for me.

u dont need to wash your meat after you brown it. those a re saturated fats that your body needs and having them in your diet will help increase your overall test.
with your current stack u should not be worried about gaining fat.
have you ever seen pro-bodybuilders offseason?
they arent fat but they are big, thick, and full
not as lean and ripped but as big as houses.
they are getting in as much quality protein, healthy fats, and low GI carbs they can to take put on as much size as possible.
not just fat size but quality muscle size.
keep that in mind while you eat and train

Gotcha. thanks dude. i thought the beef was lean enough but it was just something else that i thought would make it leaner. i remember gaurdian telling me his meaning of "lean meat", which is chicken, turkey, fish, tuna or 90% or higher ground beef, and he owuld eat steaks on occasions

1 cup of milk is only like 8grams of protein. so if your going to drink something in the middle of the night you might as well throw in some whey protein to make it worth while protein wise

well ya, but still I dont understand the need for 40g of protein at 3:30 in the morning, unless your going to consider that your breakfast.

I take in 57g of protein right before bed. I'm a heavy sleeper so I don't get up in the middle of the night, but come breakfast I hit it hard again.

Well ya I also either take a casein shake, whey w/ PB shake, or cottage cheese before I go to sleep to stabilize my body through out the night, and than in the morning get some fast digesting whey into me and than a whole food source of protein. But I just was saying I dont think he would need to much protein at 3:30 in the morning if he isnt staying up for the rest of the morning.

say you're up for 16 hours of the day, and you would eat every 2-3 hours, but for the 8 hours that you're sleeping, you're not feeding your body. i only take 1 scoop at 330 which is 24 grams, not 40. nothing wrong with more protein, imo. but like miplank said, 8 grams of protein in 1 cup of skim milk is definitely not enough.

exactly...if your going to take the time to get up..make it worth while.

I would say 24g is good amount. I prefer to get my protein from food sources, but at 330 in the morning you pry just want to get right back to bed. LOL

Well I understand it, 24 is alot better than say a 40g serving. Im into macros so I just wouldnt want that to make me go over my totals, but your making it an everyday thing so thats good.

i try to get as much calories in as possible. right now im at about 5500-5600 clean calories a day and i only weigh 153-155. i would take in more but i dont want to be so bloated that i cant eat 2 1/2 hours later. i will be adding more calories as the weeks go by. and BTW, my grocery bill is off the chains with the amount of food im eating. its actually really expensive to eat healthy then it is to buy fast food.

Ya I would imagine, do you do macro totals like:
Protein- x amoount
Carbs- x amount
Fats- x amount?

no, not exactly. i just eat the same ammount of protein as i do carbs (roughly) so when i eat 12 oz of chicken breast (2 servings), i would eat 4 slices of bread(2 servings). thats how i do it. the nutrtional info on the bread actually states 1 serving as 1 slice of bread, but imo, everyone eats atleast 2 slices of bread when they make sandwiches. and i eat nice portions of natural peanut butter with my cottage cheese for my dietary fats, and to get a few extra hundred calories in cuz pb has 100 cals per tbsp.

i get more strict when im dieting to get cut, with counting the calories and everything down to gram, but ill worry about that in january.
