Ok I'm getting ready to have my tummy tuck and breast reduction done...hopefully by Feburary....

So what do you guys research in your Plastic Surgeons?? I will probably goto Toronto as there's more surgeons there and more centers...than my city...just don't know what to research..

I don't have a clue..my sister in law had both done in Michigan and was about 12,500 for both. Good job on both...but she complains that all the fat goes to her back now..i don't know if that is true. But she does get that roll around her back

Look on the internet....the American Society of Plastic Surgeons has a website, I don't see why Canada won't have one too.....Just do searches on plastic surgeons.

Also -- GET MORE THAN ONE CONSULTATION!! Ask for references & call the people. Try word of mouth..... Look at B4 & after pics....

A good website is www.liposite.com. They have a message board, B4 & after pics, etc. The people on there have had a wide variety of PS done and will answer all your questions. They are great!!

If you have any more ? just ask....

yeah, that can happen as the fat cells in one area have been reduced but not in the other areas, so if you gain weight after surgery, the area not done will look "bigger" than if she hadn't had surgery in the first place.

She may need lipo on her back in those spots.....

Just a question about the fat going to differnt area's....if I'm working out and keeping myself in good shape......will the fat still go into other areas and be a pain to get rid off?

Main reason I'm getting a tummy tuck, is I've lost and gained so much weight, and with 3 c-sections the muscle has been cut 3 times...so I'll never have a flat stomache without the tuck....all the loose skin...I am wating until I lose more weight, but would like to start consultations now, so I have lots of time to decide...

Good idea to start with the consultations now, as it an take awhile to get the appt. & to complete them. And with plastic surgery -- don't cheap out on it....

The fat doesn't "go" to or migrate into other areas. Your PS may do a little lipo if necessary. Otherwise he'll cut you across, and cut off a certain amount of skin then may sew (to repair) the loose muscle.

With lipo what happens is that a certain # of fat cells are removed, say from your hips. So now you have 500 fat cells in your hips, where there used to be, say, 2,000; but you still have 2,000 in your torso. SO, if you happen to gain any weight, the fat cells in your torso will APPEAR to have accumulated in that area. You have to be very careful after plastic surgery with regards to weight gain. And yes, it can be a pain to get rid of.....

Thanks....I'm still unsure of the whole thing...

I'm hoping that insurance will cover most of the costs.....I know they will cover the reduction but I may have to fight to get the tuck covered......

I've never thought of myself to get plastic surgery before......so researching this is completly differnt. Its encouraging to see the before and after pictures though.

Your insurance may cover the reduction but will most likely not cover the tummy tuck....most types of plastic surgery are not covered by insurance....

Make sure your PS is board certified....ask TONS of questions, and if you're not comfortable with them, don't use them...

Also, again, check out www.liposite.com -- they are a wealth of information.

Check out implantinfo.com - they have a great article about how to locate & research a plastic surgeon. The particular article focuses on Florida & the US but gives guidelines for how to research for malpractice suits etc. If it doesn't list links for Canada, it gives you an idea of what sort of equivalent resources you should use to do the equivalent checks. Consultations should be free first of all, so make sure you do them. Talk to the docs, make sure you are comfortable with how they are treating you. You might also request to speak with some of their former patients who have had the same or similar operations w/ that doctor. Often they won't give you the patient's information & you contact them - instead they would give your contact information to the patient & the patient will contact you. Depends - they obviously protect their current patients, but often a patient will agree to discuss their experience. Then you can ask any questions about the procedure, how they felt, etc.

Mandi, good luck! Are you going with a full tuck (the kind that goes all the way around and tightens the ab muscles) or a partial? I will be getting a full tuck hopefully by the end of this year. My daughter wound up needing braces or I'd be doing it at the end of summer.

I had a breast lift done and feel much better. I had some complications but all in all I'm much happier than I was before. It's all a little scary but do as much research as you can on the net and when you interview doctors, ask so see their before and after pics. If you don't get a good feel for the doctor, go to another. Let them know you're getting several consultations before making a decision.
