protein shakes - anyone else have this problem

Little Rage

New member
i would love to be able to load up with protein...

I've tried about 5 different flavors and companies of protein powder...

BUT

everytime i tried to drink them.....
*sip*
*barf*:bawling:

so now i get sick when i even smell it mixed up:(

i tried mixing it in everything type of juice/milk/water everything...

only way i could consume it was when i made pancakes with the powder....

but still could taste it and only was a little sick but couldn't even eat near enough of them to get the amt needed of protein...

so i gave my friend all the powder in exchange for some protein bars... oh they don't work.. i didn't puke...just can't eat more than a bite without getting sick...
so i gave them back

anyone else have this problem?

Dude, I love EAS simply protein. 40 g protein, 3 g carbs. Or, if you're not low-carb, chocolate myoplex powder with a little water and 1 tbsp of peanut butter is the BOMB! Mix it like a pudding. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!:p :p :p

Yuppers EAS myloplex tastes good can't imaging anyone barfing that up............RADAR

Never had that problem. I use myoplexes and I love them. But If I get a little to crazy and start having nonthing but shakes, I do get sick of them...

try mixing it in with your food- pancake batter-oatmeal-even with a small amount of ice cream, you can sprinkle it on just about anything........................:D

Is Optimum Nutrition tasty? Just ordered five pounds of the chocolate,
and if it's anything like Designer, then I'm gonna have the same problem
as my buddy Lil Rage.

I've been loading up on isopure bottled protien. Looks and tastes more like a weak otter pop then a milkshake. Has 40 grams of protien no carbs or fat and are very easy to gulp down. I sit around drinkin em on ice all through the day. Don't know how good the quality is but its nice to be drinkin rasberry ice, grape, apple mellon, and orange, rather than choclate or vanilla all the time. Just a thought for ya.

Isopure is pretty good stuff (taste & quality wise)...Optimum's new Pro Complex (with the purple label) is the best tasting stuff I've ever had. It's a mixture of whey isolate, egg, whey concentrate, and added glutamine.

Just a thought--to make the protein taste better, you could mix it up and then put it in the fridge for a couple of hours (or overnight) to let the protein saturate the liquid. For some reason that makes it taste better.

cant think off all the types i tried but

whey
designer protein
gnc

and flavors of
chocholate
strawberry
vanilla
french vanilla
no flavor (so it says)

and yes i recently tried myoplex....
took it how my friend does it.. and i only used a half scoop with milk and bananas

quick story of myoplex
me - *chug*............done
friend - "see u drank it..."
me - :) ......... :( ..........
friend - "damn your a pussy"
me - :doublefi: ....... ....... :doublefi:

think i'm gonna try the dog treats :)

bro i have the same problem with myoplex and any meal replacement if i just smell them i feel like puking. that's nasty stuff i won't get near it but everyone else loves them. i can drink protein shakes with no problem but if you want to try something new buy strawberry flavored protein powder and mix it with apple juice instead of milk or water, it's more refreshing give it a try you might like it!!!!!

not to flame you but there are other sources of protein....try eating chicken, tuna, eggwhites, and basically any kind of meat you can get your hands on

George's triple threat is the best tasting protein I've ever tried. If you don't barf at the taste of a milkshake then you won't have any problem holding this protein down.;)

Man that is strange, and also a shitty deal if you are tryin to up your protien intake. I have used all kinds and usually try something new after every batch. I will tell you that although the isolates are much better protien source, they are way worse tasting! Make sure you have a concentrate.

My advice to you is ... drown out the taste! You may not be getting as much protien per shake, but you will just have to take a few more per day. If it is a chocolate shake ... try this ... buy nestle quick mix, and dump in a shit load of more chocolate flavour! (shitty for cals though). Like wise for vinnalla, add vinalla extract ... it does not take much of this as it is very strong to add extra flavour in your shake .. its cheap too. For straberry, add strawberyy koolaid mix, or real fresh strawberries, and try also adding ice cubes, so they crush up like a smoothie! This is very good and is what i do as a ice cool drink goes down much better than a warm one. Make sure you use a blender and don`t mix the shit in a glass, as it may say it does on the label, but the shit doesnt ... much better in a blender! Hope this helps .. good luck bro! If all else fails, you can buy premade whey drinks, such as isopure etc. Very good, but verey expensive as well!

Good Luck,
Mavy

WHEY protein tastes bad for me just like any other brand but do I have any choice ? lol

As far as a low carb protein powder goes, optimum is the best tasting in my opinion. For meal replacements, I have pretty much tried everything. My two personal favorites are triple threat 60 and growth factor x(by GEN). Both taste great but triple threat 60 is cheaper price wise.

Who makes Triple Threat? I can't find it around my usual places and noone seems to have heard about it? I have heard it mentioned numerous times here on the board and am finally ready to try it out.

I think the optimum sucks cock, ESPECIALLY the Pro-Complex. I'd go with the EAS products or my personal favorite based soley on taste, Human Development.

I've tried Optimum Chocolate and it tastes like a real milkshake. Optimum strawberry is supposed to be excellent too as my friend told me. If you can't down these two (which taste too good to be good for you anyways) I can't see you being able to drink any protein shakes. (I've tried Designer Chocolate and it has an off-taste that doesn't really resemble chocolate so I don't expect it to be similar to Optimum's).

Meal replacements generally tend to taste worse than straight protein powders. Myoplex, for instance, tastes like blackboard chalk dissolved in water or milk, but then again, most meal replacements do.

Crimson triple threat is produced by mass quanities everyone who has tried it has said nothing but good of the product just click on the top of this board where it says"supplements"! RADAR

Dude try ProComplex..it's great! Mix it with 2 cups of water so it's not thick and add a banana and a little peanut butter....yummmy

Optimum strawberry is some nasty shiot. Don't know about the chocolate. The best I've found is American Whey. The chocolate is so good I almost end up drinking more than I should. Even mixed with just water it's good.

i was the same, its a matter of taste

try as many as u can , of good grade whey , and u'll find one u can hold, unless ur intolerant to something in the powder.

u'll get there in the end

oh hell

today i tried a new few things besides my enormous large food intake for protein

can't remember the name of it exactly > but it's the protein that VPX sports makes -
oh and tried a sip mixed with water and then some mixed with milk... and then some with juice...

the results :

so i tried a doggie biscuit also :D and i have to say that it honestly tastes better than those protein bars which also doesn't say much but hell i'm always up for something different :)

Its all on how you mix it.
I can only drink chocolate flavors.

How to mix:
Add small amount of water just enough to make the powder into a thick mix.
Add Milk try 0,1,2, and whole Milk at different amounts. This is the key to changing the flavor and texture of the drink.
If you want some flavor or vitamin add some Olvatine.

I myself like two scoops of 100% whey a little water and 1.5-2.5 cups of whole milk.

personally, prolab (chocolate pure whey) to me tastes great... i make my shakes with a scoop of that, some all natural peanut butter, half a banana, soy milk and ice... tastes great... no bad aftertaste...

one big key is to make sure that you mix it well... i bought one of those hand mixers for 30 (canadian), and it works great... i don't expect a long life out of it since i make 2-3 shakes a day..

little rage can you drink whole milk you may have a lactose intolerance..try some lactose free milk add icecream and then some powder....let me know how that works..if all else fails get some grape juice and some pre-mixed liquid protein......at least it won't be thick like a powder...RADAR

agreed!!! what the hell is that shit.... that's disturbing... i think you just may be the first person i add to my ignore list :)

What brand of protein are you using? Also are you mixing it w/ water or milk. take a little at a time and increase gradually to try to get your body accoustomed to it.

Most protein mixes make me gag too, Rage. Met-Rx is like library paste.

The only commercial one I've been able to stomach is Iso Pure -- both the mix and the one in the 20-oz bottles that tastes like Kool Aid.

However, the BEST deal and the best quality I've encountered is the iso-stuff from proteinfactory.com. It's cheap, it mixes really easily, you can custom-formulate it and it's not thick and gross.

Yep, I'd definately say your best bet is to go with IsoPure by Nature's Best. It's clear, lactose-free, not thick at all and comes in a variety of flavors. You'll have to pay a bit more for it (buy the 3lb container for the best price/serving), but with your reactions to everything else this is probably something you can actually keep down.

Sounds like you have some crazy physical or mental "allergy" to everything else. :D

how much he pay u to say that? :D

like i said myoplex does not stay down...

pinch nose take down, take finger off nose (doesn't matter after how long) and

sorry doesn't work and i tried to mix it with everyhting :(

well your only option now is to eat a shitload of fish turkey chicken,etc........BARF!!! RADAR

I buy my protein unflavored in 11lb bags really cheap. It does taste bad if you drink it plain, and some flavored protein taste like crap anyway. So what I do is I mix either sugar free jello or sugar free pudding mix into my shakes. Or you can use Carnation instant breakfast, chocolate syrup, or even yogurt and ice in a blender, blending with fine choped ice usually makes any of your shakes taste a lot better.

I have the same problem

I have had the same problem for the longest time. I used to hold my nose so that it would go down. Anyhow I came across ISOPURE, I can drink it without a problem. I think that is the best protein ever created. I can drink it without ever feeling sick.

What the hell happen to my post?

Yesterday, I posted a reply here about a protein called Proto-Whey. Today it is gone. Why? Who can do this? Did I step on this sites feet by talking up a product they don't sell????????????

Optimum Nutrition is good but I think there quality is crap.......
