protein powder timing

I tried to take protein powder before my workout and I got so nauseous I almost threw up
tried to take it during my workout and same thing happened, just felt heavy
so I’ve been taking an after my workout but a friend of mine says that you should try and take it during or before it would have the best benefits on the muscles
what is your advice when it comes to protein powder timing?

take protein with honey or some carbs will go down easy

if you're getting nauseous then obviously you're not doing things the correct way
 
if you're not feeling well how are you gonna put it all into your workout
