Protein Powder Is A Waste ?

I've taken a dozen different kinds of protein powders and never gained an ounce from any of them. When I started my cycle, my deca soucre told me to EAT. Real food. Keep it clean, but EAT to gain.

Protein powder as a liquid is out of your system too fast to make a difference. Real food (good clean protein & carbs) is slow-burn, and thats how you build mass.

I never gained an ounce from powders, but yes, when I eat oatmeal and an egg sandwich for breakfast, pasta for lunch, and a steak&potato for dinner, I can see the difference. That's when this skinny runt finally started gaining some mass. It stays in the system and slowly breaks down, feeding the muscles, rather than a drink that you will piss out in about an hour.

I worked at GNC, and in 6 months never had a massive bodybuilder come in and buy Nitro-Tech like the skinny college kids do. They won't talk against it, but they don't consume it. They allocate their money toward buying roids & good food not powders.

Arnold never promoted any protein powder. In his day, they all ate real food to get big. These corporations are making millions duping us with their pretty ads & promises - we have to stick with the basics and stop wasting money on these powders.

I hope I am on track and giving good advice to guys who are starting out and trying to gain. I for one, am doing better since I stopped the powders and started to eat sufficiently to support my goals.

I wouldnt be so harsh on powders. And I would say that 60-70% of your protien intake should be from whole foods.

BUT...post workout, easy to digest protien such as whey is gonna be much better than a steak.

And before bed, a shake is so easy to gulp down.

I think you may have had counterfiet shakes. They have down nothing but positive things to me.

you know, I've thought that you absorb much more from solid foods then liquids for a long time, so I agree with you.. I've searched a bit on the internet to try and find absorbtion rate differences between solid and liquid sources of nutrients but nothing much came up I still always assumed this though because I've noticed differences, and not just with protein.

In fact I think getting a certain amount of protein is even over rated greatly in bodybuilding.. most important I think is to just make sure you get a good source of complex carbohydrates and protein from difference sources in each meal (grains, nuts, beans) rather then concentrate on a particular number of grams.

Yes I agree with your solid food opinion 100% ...

when I was sick with pnemonia years ago, I layed in bed all day and just drank different types of juices all day thousands of calories of juice which is 95% carbohydrates.. because I did not feel like eating anything.... and you know I was very catabolic to fat and muscle tissue.. I lost like 20 pounds.

just add flax oil to all of your shakes, this will slow down the rate of absorbtion. Most "real food" take too long to digest. You don't want to eat a steak close to working out, and do you really think that you could digest 4 steaks in one day with two other meals on top of that? Shakes have their place as a supplement, but not as a replacement.

I do think protein drinks have their place, but I think for building mass solid food is where it's at... before rigorous exercise I will use protein drink to hopefully ward off some catabolism.. and before bed with some flax usually... post workout right away I have protein drink.. but shortly after get in some good solid foods.

I also make sure to have soy protein in my shakes since it is more slowly digested.

Did you ever think that you eat less when you are drinking shakes? A shake has a shitload of air in it that goes into your stomach.
A good protein (like Animal's protein) wont cause you to get the shits either like so many complain about.
BTW protein powder in the 70's-well you'd eat food too if you had to stomach that shit.
Keep in mind alot of the 'big guys' have the time to eat 8 times a day- most dont.

complete nonsense!

protein shakes are a critical part of the bodybuilders routine.
and dont compare to the pros of the 60's and 70's.

with today's knowledge one can grow just as big as the pros back then but in half the time.

That is why they call protein powders supps. They are exactly that, supplements to your diet, not replacements real food. Without them I could never get 250grams of protein into my system.
