Protein from Powder

I was just wondering if it really makes a difference whether or not you get the majority of your protein from Powder shakes or solid foods. I just want to see what everyone thinks.

I believe that most of your protein intake should come from whole-foods because not only do u get the protein u need, but you also get minerals and vitamins. Also, one might argue that protein powders feature exclusively whey protein will provide you only with relatively fast-absorption protein, while a can of tune, cottage cheese or steak will provide you with a more long-lasting proteic supply.
However, it is importante to remember that powders etc are SUPPLEMENTS, intended to SUPPLEMENT your diet and not take over whole foods. Stick to 2 MRP or Whey Shakes a day imo and educate yourself to get the protein you need from whole-food sources.
Thank me later :D

I eat a good deal of tuna i was just wondering what other thought.

I consume my protein almost exclusively from whole foods and have found it to do nothing but benefit my physique. When I first started out I relied to heavily on protein shakes. There is little doubt in my mind that whole food protein sources are number one. Protein shakes may serve a purpose postworkout, or to aid in kick-starting amino acid assimilation first thing in the AM (i.e. whey with eggs), but other than that they are second rate.

MEAT!... lots of fresh meats bro... powder only to supplement one's diet when needed and for convience.

Just start eating quality food all day and you'll see.

... not Tuna all day either :rolleyes:

Diversify your diet... eating too much of anything is not good.

Yeah... I only eat tuna when I am not willing to cook (weekends etc)
But I think tuna is a relatively good source of protein though...
:)

I didn't see considerable gains in muscle mass and strength until I incorporated more lean ground sirloin and chicken breast into my diet. Before, I relied heavily on protein shakes and MRPs, but going for solid foods made a world of difference! Go with what has been said here, treat whey and MRPs for what they are....SUPPLEMENTS

the fuck is wrong with tuna?

Milk Isolate is my primary protein source, most days I don't consume more than 50 grams of protein from meat, mostly lean beaf. Dairy and eggs( including whites) are the only protein sources that have a perfect score of 1.0 on the PCDAAS (The latest standard for protein quality). The best meat source is beef with a score of .95. Also, milk isolate maintains most of the mineral content of whole milk which means large amounts of calcium, magnesium and zinc in a single shake. I get over 100% of the RDI for magnesium and zinc from my shakes alone(the two minerals most commonly found deficient in the American diet).

I get about 50 grams of protein from meat and another 250g-300g from protein powders and eggs(about 20g from eggs). Here is a link to recent pictures of me, I'm 5'10" and around 235-240 in the pictures and haven't juiced in over five years...look in the getting ready for Summer Album;
