Protein absorbtion

How much protein can you absorb at once??

I had a guy at the gym's smoothie bar tell me there was no point in having more than 40 grams or so in my smoothie/protein shake since my body can only absorb 40 grams at once....
Where does this come from?

You can use 1 gr. or 70 gr. Your body will use what it needs in other words.

There are some "numbers" thrown around like for instance 40 gr. Ok, say for instance your diet consisted of 100% protein(extreme, but using this for a point). So, if you take in 200 gr. of protein in a meal, and nothing else, the body would use only 40 gr. and discard the rest?

In that case you would soon starve to death!

right, but are there any studies that show that the average person can only take in at most 40g in 1 sitting?

i mean Fuck i'm 6'4" 280 lbs almost and I'm trying to take in 400g of protein a day.. i'm not eating 10 meals a day with 40g of protein each . . .
lol

what i'm doing now seems to be working pretty damn well

my weight is up quite a bit since I started my cycle and my waste has shrunk a few inches. my caliper measurements are down 3 or 4 mm too so I must be doing something right.

When these guys spout this stuff, ask them for one shred of evidence to back it up! Bet they cannot provide even one.

This nonesense, it began I believe as 30 gr. and is now up to 40gr. (tells you something there, doesn't it) got started many years ago and spread as conventional wisdom somehow.

I believe the supplement companies early on had a hand in this. Met Rx years ago when it first came out (they sold it then through distributors, they tried to get me to sell it, like for instance shaklee does), had a flyer that came with it touting something to this extent to back up their amount of protein. Then when a later batch came out, they changed their flyer to that amount(in other words, whatever amount we put in our product, this is the right amount :))

This kind of stuff is hard to overcome. You just have to be smarter. The body is not going to just discard food because it "magically" hits some predetermined number.

I've heard 25g, 30g, 40g, Its all BS. Everyone is different. So on that same note he's saying that a 150lb guy can use the same amount as a 280lb guy. Its rediculous.

There is no "one size fits all" formula. It's anyone's guess
Basically your body will take what it needs, if your short on glucose convert some there, then dump the rest ... literally ... lol

Did you tell me that? :D
