Proper footwear is very important. Any suggestions for a lifting shoe?

I ALWAYS squat in work boots......
 
Chuck Taylors for squatting and deads. Do they make any other shoe for these activities?

I agree, they are ugly as Hell. But I lift to get stronger, not to get chicks. Besides, when you are going deep with 5 or 6+ plates on the bar, do you think people are going to be cracking on your shoes?

I use hiking boots, because of their hard soles for heavy lifting. Shoes with alot of cushioning tend to absorb some of the energy during standing lifts like deads and squats, which makes the lift tougher.

Why? Because everyone else does?

I think I'm going to stick with my doctor's recommendation.
 
My old workout partner, before he moved, is also a member of this board. I convinced him to get a pair of Chucks after many years of training in other shoes. He loves them.

It is hard to explain...but they are the best for squatting and deadlifting...they DO make a difference.

I can't explain it fully...but I do know that they make a difference.

The flatter your foot (the sole) when lifting, the less the knee will travel forward when squatting. This makes it slightly easier to rotate more at the hip joint and less at the knee joint.

For competition purposes, the closer the shin stays to vertical, the less you have to descend to break parallel.

Last time I looked powerlifters had a habit of doing what works not what looks right or what everybody else does. How'd you think reverse hypers, boards, bands and chains came about?? They try alot of things and stick with what works. Chucks work.....full stop.
 
IMO, the only thing to wear is a "MID HIGH" Cross Training sneaker of any make.

MidTops come up about an inch or so higher than a standard sneaker but not as high as Gay looking Hightops.

Reebok, Nike, whom ever has last years models on sale for under $50 is what I buy.
