Proper footwear is very important. Any suggestions for a lifting shoe?

I've strained the arch of my left foot running. I went to the doctor and he gave me a script for an anti inflammatory. He also told me I had a high arch and that at my weight (225ish) I should replace my shoes often and have 1 pair ONLY for running.

However, he couldn't really offer any suggestions of a good weight lifting shoe. Anyone have suggestions? (First person that says Otomix gets nuked :D )

Chucks dude...........chuck taylors. Well atleast for squats and deads and what not. They have a flat sole. You may want to check them out. Not a lot of ankle support though

I have about 5 pair of shoes that I wear on a regular basis...all New Balance cross-trainer types of shoes. I rotate them often too. I buy New Balance because they seem to be the only thing that I can get in my size.

For lifting...Chucks will definately help with your squats and deads. I can't imagine squatting without them anymore...especially not heavy.

when I squat I wear normal boots and I have never seemed to have a problem, but when I squat with sneakers the arch of my feet kills....

My chucks were $37.50 including shipping...can't be beat...

I went to a specialty running store (the one my doctor advised me to go to). Very knowledgable people. I stood on a computer mat so they could check out my arch and weight distribution. Sure enough, I'm favoring my left foot (I already knew that but still cool to see).

I have very rigid feet so for running I need a shoe with lots of cushioning and little arch support. Too much arch support would change my gait. For my weight, I have to change them every 3 or so months. For lifting and every day walking, I got some custom shoe insoles. They heated them up and molded them to my feet. I just slipped them in my regular shoes. Those have quite a bit of arch support.

Not to bag on anyone's shoes but my guess is that Chuck's are some of the worst out there. It's not 1955 anymore people.

Lord_Suston - My doc actually mentioned squatting in regular hiking type boots. Not too pretty but lots of support. The custom insoles are just a bit better though.
