pro diets

arnold wrote the encyclopedia of bodybuilding,
It's been revised a few times.
I had a early edition but passed it on about 10 years ago to a close friend to give to his son that had just got into bodybuilding

Arnold even said it the book he follwed a strict diet for 9 months while training for the MrO then in his time off he enjoyed regular everyday food just like everyone else.

I rember the ratios of fat were high by todays standards, whole milk, whole eggs, whole creams and so on , I think arnold was not a big advocate of carb cutting and dropping calories to lose fat. His solution if I rember was working out twice as hard
Then 6 weeks out from the show came his double split programs 1 1/2 hours in the morning and 1 1/2 hours working out in the evening with midsection, calves and forarms every day for the 6 weeks up to the contest.
To burn fat and tighten up along with tanning everyday, suana and steamroom to keep his skin tigh clean and flushed out.
But you have to remeber he could do all of that stuff, It was his job from 1971 to 1975 full time bodybuilder

Dude, no offense but Arnold did not write his own stuff. If anything, he may have passed along some info but I seriously doubt it was very exact and taking these diet plans as gospel...well, it's just not reality.

i was looking online for this the other day and couldnt find it and i realized it is in his book like faiz says. i ccould dig it out later if u like and look it up. but if i remember correctly it wasn't near as "clean" as current pros claim to follow. i also think he didn't take near as many protein shakes as they do now (if any). i think he may have occaisionally had one a day. the rest was real food.

Funny this post came up, I did this for another thread - http://www.durtea.com/nutri/800/

His entire diet and nutrition chapter from this book.

my intention with this thread was to show newbies that even the top professional BBs have to eat eat and eat some more to maintain and gain, a winny only cycle with 3 meals a day aint gona cut it

there is a video on youtube of cutler shopping at costco. for 6-7 days of food. he bought only oatmeal, fish, chicken and water and spent like $200.

Just a few years ago arnold has a section in muscle and fitness where people wrote in and he awnsered the questions.
He then layed out a diet in one of the examples.
I guess the authors wrote it not arnold. Yet it was arnold Q & A forums.
What about frank zane?
Zane says he can look back 20 yrs ago and told you eactly what he ate from looking at his journals
In the eat like zane book look like zane book. Zane goes over his diet.
Did zane not write any of that as well, and he just through his name on the book?

I have read both the 1st and 2nd addition of the Encyclopedia, you guys are right he didn’t write the entire 900+ pages. But you guys are making it sound like since he didn’t write the entire thing that the book is garbage. Out of all the books I have read, this seems to be the most complete in every aspect of eating, dieting, nutrition, and exercise.

Think for a moment. This is one of the most powerful people in the world. Do you think he's sitting around answering letters from readers of MUSCLE and FITNESS? Arnold had a contract where Weider can use his name anytime. It still holds.

I believe Zane wrote his own book.

It was back from 02 when he was just filming t3 and a actor.

So you think arnold was not strict the last 6 weeks of a contest like he claims?
So arnold sat around drank beer and ate junk food the last 6 weeks?
Why would arnold lie in his book?

Plus weider was a theif he stole ideas from other bodybuilders and renamed them " weider principles "

Big lou did not follow his own diet he wrote in his book.He was eating a orange in the airport at 2:12 pm and it was not written down that he ate a orange in the diet as a mid afternoon snack.
So that discredits all of lou's diets in every book that lou wrote as a " typical days diet "

I think your missing the point . Arnold wote down this is a EXAMPLE OF A TYPICAL DAYS EATING.He never said he follwed it every day.
