Pretty sure I have a hernia :(

Well I broke down and went to the doc on tuesday. Turns out it is not a hernia, thank god. It's most likely just a tear from lifting. It feels quite a bit better now, went to the gym today and did light work for chest and tri and had no pain. Ill be back at it in no time :D

we are so similar and its good you got the clear from a Doctor
now practice "vacumes" and isometric flexion of abs to make them decrease in circumference, carry this over when lifting and control the diameter of your trunk when lifting and deliberately keep it tight so you do not incur injury

my training partner is 25 y/o. . .he has blue cross insurance, prescription card, annual $500 deductible and it costs like $90 a month. . .get yourself insured!

I went through this exact scenario back in early July.
Took a week off the gym, the abdominal pain didn't get much better.

Went to the GP and he stated it wasn't a large hernia he could feel bulging, but
when he pressed on my abdomen while I contracted my abs, he felt a soft spot
or a depression in the muscle wall on both sides below my belly button. Not a
true umbilical hernia though.

Had me immediately go get a lab work and an Abdominal CT scan with contrast both drink and IV. This can also be a sign of an intestinal blockage as well as other serious problems. That came back normal. He referred me to a GI for a Colonoscopy as well as a Surgeon consult to verify his findings of a minimal abdominal hernia or weak muscle wall.

I don't do squats since it happened, but am able to do most other lifts and it only bothers me a bit now. I will get the colonoscopy due to my age just to get it out of the way. I am in a wait and see mode as I ramp the Lbs back up on my lifts before I see the Surgeon.

By the way, generally speaking, true Hernias will not heal on their own. They will always have the tendency to get worse until repaired surgically. And even then they can reoccur.

Well now I'm more worried then before. The doc had told me he didnt feel any hernia but I did have pain so he said it was just a tear. But its been so long since the initial pain, and I get pain at the weirdest times. I just had another sharp stabbing pain about an inch down and to the left of my bellybutton just from laughing hard. I dont really have the money to go to another doc for a second opinion. And I cant afford to buy insurance right now. I guess im just sorta fucked, if its a hernia ill be in the sometime soon i guess.

no ab work after the injury. but i used to do slantboard situps once a week. and my job is very strenuous. hardwood flooring, its basically cardio all day.
