quick update for ya'll... today new guy is doing hang cleans & again dropping the effing bar (w/ FOUR rubber plates each side) on his lifts... geez!

so I say to this friend of mine-- "Thats totally annoying.. what do ya think?' ANd she goes.. "oh that guy-- thats Tom" & points up to this huge picture of Tom Magee 2800 lbs world powerlifting champion on the wall at Golds!!!

anyways...Im gonna ask him (no maybe beg him) to teach me some power lifts next wk... LOL!!

Tom Magee was a BBer/Wrestler from Canada who also competed in strongman. There is no 2800 total in powerlifting, so he's not a powerlifter (at least not with that number). So far, none of the guys described have been powerlifters. This should be the "olympic lifters @ my gym" thread. lol

in the Golds pic- hes lifting 2800 lbs from a platform-- its not an olympic lift- but he set a record for that weight regardless.

whats the difference bet a powerlifter & olympic lifter??? doesnt a PLr use oly lifts in their competition???

Powerlifters do the squat, bench press, and deadlift in competition. Olympic lifters do the clean and jerk, and the snatch in competetion. As for Tom Magee, I don't know much about him, other than he is a strong mofo, a good athlete, and he is put together, but I can tell you he doesn't have a PL total of 2800lbs though because nobody does.

The picture of him at gold's is of him doing a calf raise or a shrug with that weight I can't remember which, I think he is training one of the wsw competitors.
