I see where you are coming from. I just seem to get so much stronger doing heavy or moderate flat benching than doing the whole speed work. My reps are fast dont get me wrong but I did the whole 100%westside training for 10 weeks. All my ME days went up and my speed seemed good but my raw strength never went up. Im sure my shirted max went up but my raw was shitty because I checked it. I didnt max out but I did test a set of five reps and it was the same as before. Thats when I went back to the drawing board and started doing some real benching again. And what do you know, I started getting stronger again. My raw strength is up a shit load. Hell, if I hit 300lbs directly after warm ups I could probably get 7-8reps. The last time I tried 300 raw I set a PR and hit 5 with it but that was directly after I hit a PR set with 275 for 11 reps. The most I could get before was 2 lol. Benching just helps me much more. But I do feel that the boards are of a good benifit. THe one board will hopefully help my raw bench because of my low sticking point off my chest and the 2,3,4,5, boards will also benifit my raw strength but I know it will help my shirted max a lot. I know competition shirted up max is all that counts but right now Im only doing two maybe three comps a year. Hell at 3 a year there are still 362 days left to train and personally I have an ego to keep up in the gym LOL. I just like the raw benches more than shirted but hell everyone wears a shirt in comps so I do to.
