post workout meal timing question

I've read various opinions when it comes to the post workout meal. Some say it is crucial, some say it doesn't make much of a difference.

I want to take a post-workout meal but I usually do my workout around 17:15 and by the time I am done and home it's ~18:30 and I don't eat until 19:30. Is 19:30 too late to be considered a 'post workout' meal? If so, what would you recommend I take immediately after my workout? I'm concerned about taking something right after and not enough time passing until my next meal. I also tend to have a small meal before sleep.

Take 100cal carbs and 25g protein with you.

You have 2-6 hours to replenish, but those who do it asap will feel better and recover faster if the immediately after drink is taken.

Even better is taking it while doing some easy cardio which is then called active recovery, but that's another subject.

ive been taking a postworkout shake no more than 20 minutes after training except days i do short cardio for 15 minutes then i have a meal bout 1-1 1/2 hours after shake it seems to be working ok i usually train untill 8.00 pm so my shake is at about 8:30 and my meaL IS AT 9=9:30

The way I do it (just my approach here), is if I'm doing weights, I eat IMMEDIATELY after (steak and veggies and brown rice while I'm getting dressed in the locker room...not). By immediately I mean within 20 minutes.

If I'm doing HIIT cardio I wait up to 45 min to an hour before eating after workout. I'm going on the assumption here that my metabolism will keep running and burning BF after excersise (unless, as in a different post, I feel I need to eat right away cause I "overdid it" and started breaking down muscle instead of fat).

If you have a problem trying to get home after the gym (say, crossing one of the f'ing bridges in Vancouver), I'd say take a protien shake or MRP and knock that down in the car on the way home just to start feeding your body's muscles. When you get home eat again with real food and take into a account you just had a shake recently.

Does that make any sense?

I always have a shake immediately, prior to showering, after hitting the weights (40-50g simple carbs, 40g protein). I then have a nice round meal when I get home, about an hour later, with 50-60g protein and as many green veggies (broccoli, fresh green beans, spinach, etc.) as I can handle. This seems to work pretty well for me.

right after my workout i start drinking a whey shake.. about 1hr later i have a meal a real big meal if im bulking..
