post workout food ?

Hi.

I want to know after my weight training my post-workout is always: a protein shake 260 calories, 44 gr. protein, 12 carbs. and a 1/2 cup oatmeal 150 calories, 27 carbs, 5 gr. protein.

I usually have a meal of tuna, chicken, with or without veggies depending on my mood 2-3 hours later.

I am looking to add muscle to my body. Is it a good idea to have carbs & protein post-workout ? Or should it be just protein ?

oh, BTW is there a difference in the type of carbs you should be eating wether you are looking to build muscle or lean out ?

my carbs are mainly oatmeal, whole wheat wraps, & green veggies. But most of the time it's oatmeal. I can eat that stuff 4-5 times a day.
can you eat too much of it ? will it haly your muscle-building in any way ?

I wanted to know this especially, cause I want my muscle but i don't want to be eating the wrong carbs and look all puffy.

thanks !!!

Check out the Sticky at the top called "MS - Insulin Resistance". It helps explain when to eat what carbs.

I NEVER take in extra carbs post workout. I never had and I never will. I always have a protein ONLY chake.

Some people will recommend putting some sort of simple carb as post workout carb which would be consumed more readily because your glycogen has been depleted by your workout. Me personally, I've really only used a protein mix as well. I get my carbs over the course of the day in different meals and as I've generally always been in a leaning out phase, I had no place in my diet for the simple carbs. This has not been a problem and I was able to build muscle with a post-workout protein mix or else just a regular meal (since I train later in the day, the carbs for the day were already consumed) & some sick training.

what do you mean by a simple carb ? post-workout ? is oatmeal considered that ?

Or should I just do my protein shake, & have carbs 2-3 hours later in my meal ?

thanks
