Building muscle does far more for fat loss! Too many people have a misconception about simply calorie depletion and or activity increase (calorie burn) as the best method.
A couple other comments on earlier posts. Machines as compared to free weights isolate muscles more and do not promote as much group or combined muscle use during exercise. That is why you typically get better results from squats, lunge, dead lifts, than sleds, etc. Because, more muscle groups are active. That is not to say a biceps curl machine does not exercise the bicep muscles any less than a dumbbell curl. The only problem is it only does that muscle, where free weights exercise the auxiliaries as well.
Second, Pooh's wife....You cannot spot reduce fat. Period! Your body looses fat pretty evenly throughout the exercise diet process. Therefore the largest fat stores (butt and thighs) are the last to go. They deplete the same as your arms do all along, but you cannot see or measure it as readily since there is much more there to loose. Underlying Muscles (quads, glutes) don't get their energy or create fat loss more readily to their specific area of the body. Your muscles will draw it from everywhere. So don't sweat it, your arms will look great long before you butt does, but it will look great soon. It's just a matter of time.
