PMS Eating and Mood Swings

HOLY MOLY.....do you gals ever get just pyscho on your period? I get this strong urge to eat sweet things and then greasy salty things. I try to make chocolate myoplex pancakes to curve the edge and lean hamburgers w/ no cheese and no bun, but sometimes that just doesn't seem to cut it. What do you girls do during these times?

Also....it seems like I loose all motivate for a couple days to excercise or do anything productive. Is there some sort of herbal supplement that would help me level things out. I've been wondering about Rhodax, but don't know anyone who has ever tried it. I have a terrible time with PMS, and then I get all depressed when I miss a couple days of the gym due to it.

HELP ME PLEASE :bawling:

Hi witchdoktor, welcome to the boards. :wavey:

5-HTP, short for 5-hydroxy-tryptophan, would probably greatly reduce your PMS cravings. Here's a little excerpt from an article I wrote about it: (and the whole enchilada is here: http://www.chemicalmuscle.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=63)

"During the luteal phase of one's menstrual cycle - in other words, the week before one has their period, PMS time - serotonin levels drop sharply, leading to crankiness and persistent food cravings. (There're other hormonal factors responsible for PMS as well, but lack of serotonin is chiefly at fault for those "shovel food into your mouth with one hand and give somebody the finger with the other hand" urges.) Again, 5-HTP is the precursor to serotonin, so by supplementing it where your body fails to produce enough, you get less PMS symptoms."

the only thing with 5-htp...it makes me tired so i dont like to take it during the day... any way around this? also, how much should i be taking to reduce cravings? i have 50 mg capsules.

have you tried progesterone cream and/or calcium? They are somewhat helpful but I haven't found anything that is 100%....Good luck!
