Ok guys... First off I begin MMA training on August 1st. My training will look like this:

MOnday- Thursday BJJ 6Pm-7pm, MMA training/Muay Thai 7pm-8pm

So i'll be going 4 days a week from 6-8...I know that might not be much but its a start for me seeing i've never done anything like this.. Now about myself... I'm 6'5" and about 205...Long and lanky...Kinda the same stats as kendall grove on the UFC 3 but longer reach (im 79 i think he was 77).. I used to do nothing but lift weights and i've dropped weight from 245 to what i am now...But let me re-inerate that its not a good weight drop... I haven't lifted in 6 months and my diet has been total and complete shit...SO i've actually lost mostly muscle and gained fat... I'm looking for someone to assist me and maybe throw out some ideas in some training that will help me get back into shape before August 1st because i don't want to be a complete chump (even though i'm sure i'll get my ass kicked for awhile)... I'm starting to jog right now just to get some exercise...I was thinking about doing interval training...like sprints for 25 seconds....then lite jogging...you know shit like that...Anyways i'm really excited and i'm going to be totally dedicated to learning as much as i can and my ultimate goal is to get in an amateur fight by a year.... So any advice would be very much appreciated....Thanks bro's for your time and have a safe 4th..... Look forward to seeing me on here alot

why wait till aug?
as far as getting in shape...any running and sprint type work will be good. i would work on anything that involves explosive power...bleachers...jumping excercises....stairs...etc....also work on your core strength as that will help you when you start.....oh here's a biggie for you.....start doing some neck bridges to build up your neck. tall skinny people, like us, get our necks worked pretty damn hard at first! if you have to wait until aug then i would find a local boxing gym and pay for a month there. if you can do that it will really help you to get ready. other than that, plan on a lot of aches and pains for a while and then your body will KIND OF (haha) get used to it.

Well i have to wait to august cause my work schedule is for the whole month... So i wasn't able to tell my manager to get off at five til august... Trust me bro..i'm so ready for this.....

Don't worry about getting your ass kicked, everyone does in the begining. Keep running a lot and the biggest thing to getting better is finding a quality team. The only way to get better in MMA is to train with people who can push you and actually know what they are doing. MMA is growing fast so finding a good team to train with shouldn't be hard.

And By the way...What are neck bridges???

forward neck bridge- get on your hands and knees...put your forehead/top of your head on the ground...then pull your knees up so you are on your feet and head. kind of like a bear crawl but without your arms down. move forward and back and side to side so your neck is having to support you. if you need to use your hands some until your neck gets strong enough to support your body.

back neck bridge- same thing but on your back. just lay on your back and "bridge up". same thing...if you need to use your hands use them but work on laying on your back and bridgeing up without them. move around when you are bridged.

hope that helps....i promise...spend 3 minutes a day doing these and it will make it a lot easier when you start training. you won't have the whiplash feel as bad.

Yeah i wrestled in highschool...then i sprung up too 6'5" and wasn't any good...I'm always roughhousin with my friends....I'm not a total passby.... I'm gonna give it my all and i think i;'ll be decent

Hell ya.....I decided i could not wait anymore and started today...I couldn't go to the BJJ class cuase i ddin't get off til 6 from work but i took the mma/mt class and all i have to say is 'wow" the shit is awesome....I can not wait to get my ass into shape....training 4 days a week for 2 hours a day plus liftin 3 days a week on core excersices and jogging everynow and then is going to do wonders....i can't wait to roll around with the bjj guys and learn....I can't wait for it to be a year from now.... just thought i'd let you guys know.....

very cool man I remember my first martial arts class in 1984 you know what? I never stopped training. got class tomorrow and still love it.

you wont have the energy/ recovery ability

Really RJ you think not?? So what do you suggest??...Let me tell you my schedule as of right now:

MOnday - Thursday BJJ from 6-7 (right now im not going on Tue and Thur. cause i don't have a gi yet) and then MMA/MT from 7-8...

I was thinkin about liftin cause i wanted to get a little stronger....I definitely need to shape up though.. So conditioning would be better... If not weights then what do you suggest?? maybe just liftin twice a week???? LMK thanks

oh id suggest weights
two time a week, only core movements though, and not too many sets reps
i too just started MMA< and although i was in decent avg person shape
im in horrible fighter shape
all the training is quite humbling
also try barbell complexes to increase muscular endurance
