Personal Trainers..

How many of you use personal trainers?? Do you have a training partner or do you workout alone? Do you think one way is better?

I learned a lot about lifting weights from my personal trainer but I'm trying to go alone now and I'm worried I won't get the same workout... Was she a crutch to me?:bawling: :bawling:

Suggestions:o :o

I'm in the same situation. I can't really afford it right now and I'm almost out of sessions. I don't think he's a crutch to me but it's really nice to have some there to modify my program and to spot me. I can say without a doubt that I'm infinitely better off having had worked with him than I would be had I started lifting again on my own. I don't think I'd have realized my own strength nor would I have pushed as hard as I have.

I wish I had a training partner. There aren't many females who lift at my gym....well, lift heavy. We'll see what I end up doing.

I agree with you Rainia... I want to find a really good lifting partner to spot me and stuff.

My trainer taught me a lot, can't say enough good things about her but I feel I need to be more disclipined with weights or something..

I used a trainer for a few mos - but he was my roomate. I paid him a VERY little bit, & then cooked & did the cleaning (I would have done it anyway!!).

Then I went alone & loved it cuz I taught so many aerobics classes - pumpin' iron was MY time to focus on ME & not focus on the workouts of others!

Then I quit teaching so much - got lonely in my workouts :(, recruited myself a w/o partner & couldn't be more thrilled now.

I was concerned about needing a spot!! I hate to bother other ppl, but don't want to REALLY go heavy on squats & bench without one. I still did make plenty of gains in my time alone - had my music to keep my company & motivated.

I kind of feel that after you learn everything, you would get more out of a lifting partner because you could push each other along. Not really compete with each other but, you know.. Watch each other and progress for motivation..

My trainer worked out with me a little but that was rather comical considering she lifts 10x what I do:lmao:

She taught me a lot about form and stuff.. It took me a month to get my squat right. Told me I squatted like a girl :lmao: :lmao:

Hopefully, I can find a good partner at the gym I'm fixing to join.

Get a man!! That's what I did. There are just too few women who lift heavy & aren't afraid of "getting big" for you to wait around to find one! Plus, there's no competition issue (he SHOULD be lifting more than you :) It's GREAT

I REALLY REALLY think gyms should help ppl match up with training partners. What do they expect ppl to do - approach everyone on the gym floor mid-w/o soliciting partnership? How awkward!!! It is proven that ppl stick with a program better when they have a 'buddy' to do it with. They should help you match up.

Has anyone encountered this????

I haven't suggested it at the gyms where I work, but I've been around there long enough to know I won't be listened to - so don't bother.

I've had two good training partners male and female. I loved them both. The only problem with the female was she took too long in between set to talk. So that's when the male partner come in handy he'd help me get her back on track. But now I'm with/out. Sometimes it's nice but most of the time I miss having that little extra push as well as a spot.
I'm having trouble finding a GOOD training partner here too.
It seems that most of the women are more interested in checking out the mirror.
