Pain in lower leg????

Night Fly

New member
For about the past 4 weeks or so...I have been experiencing really bad pains in my lower leg. Specifically...it is on the outsides of both my calves. The pain starts and my ankle and goes straight up the sides of my calves...about half way up my lower leg.

It has gotten so bad that when I run for over 5 minutes it hurts and when I work calves it hurts...it even hurts sometimes when I'm walking. It's not a short sharp pain...it is a consistent deep pain. I have tried extra stretching (rolling my feet to the inside and that stretches the outside pretty good), but that does not even help. When it starts hurting...it's really bad and it will not go away unless I completely stop all actiivity for about 5-10 minutes. It is really weird...and I have no clue what it is.

I am seriously thinking about going to the doc about it because I have this feeling that something is out of whack.

Anyone have a clue as to what is going on? Any suggestions for me? I'm really struggling with this...it's very very painful.

I have the cure...meet me after work.

Do you have flat feet? This can happen to people with flat feet who do a lot of exercise with impact on their feet.

If so, Try arch supports in your shoes it should fix it.

Shin Splints???

doesn't sound like shin splints. if it is a deep pain, stop messing about and check in with the doc.

have you tried sitting down with your legs in front of you reaching for your toes while they are pointing inwards? calf raises on the sidewalk? time for new shoes?

stretch your peroneals.

this is common among women who run frequently. chances are you make this situation worse every time you squat or do any leg work, even walking just because you dont know what you are doing wrong.

hey night, i used to have that prob when i ran alot, new shoes helped me. can't say if that would help or not, but if you need some anyway, it might be worth a try. nice hanging out with you the other day.

Hey everyone...thanks so much for the replies!

Screwball...I don't know if they could be shin splints or not. I am beginning to get those on the front of my shins, too, but this pain is on the side of the calves.

Brian...I got new shoes...and it didn't help. Maybe the new shoes could be the problem because I never had the problem before those. They are good Asics running shoes, though. Nice hanging out with you also! :)

Bignate...I think you are right about the leg exercises aggravating the pain. I don't understand why. Any good stretches you could help me out with for my peroneals?

Cytomel...I have high arches on my feet and have never had to wear extra arch supports or anything.

Champ...I've tried those stretches...they don't seem to help.

This is really frustrating because I would love to be able to start running again considering it is getting warmer outside.

Bfold... :)
