Overtraing, the Pro's view

I know this theory about overtraing and stuff, but what research and reasoning is behind overtraining? I have read countless articles written by Pro's and they talk about how they just did endless sets of EVERTHING when they were younger till they couldnt go anymore, and they seemed to have turned out pretty well from it. I know they use roids, and HGH and all that other crap, but im sayin.. they ALL say they did tons of sets when they were younger. Think theres a posibility that overtraining is a myth like most of them state, and more is better?

Dude. . . forget about what the pros are engaged in. Figure out what works for you. More is better? How about you try performing 25 to 30 sets per muscle group twice a week and report to us. And no, overtraining is not a myth, so why debate it?

it is not a myth, your body can only take so muscle muscle tearing asnd stress untill it breaks down... Many people don't realize that it takes a few days to actually heal and then a few more to grow.

I can tell you from personal experience that overtraining can occur. I tried the more is better routine. I ended up losing size and strengh. In addition is was always sore and was sick all the time. Your muscles and nervous system need time rest. Don't pay attention to what pros say. There is a reason why they are and that is genetics and ability to grow muscle that most people dont have.

RusPA said it. Genetics are the reason the pros grew so fast. And they will tell you that once they realized that lass can mean more they grew even more. Then when they started taking steroids they grew yet more.

Anyways bodybuilding is a journey of journey of self-discovery and the only person you need to worry about is yourself. Sometimes you have to overtrain just so you know your limits and then stay right below that threshold.

So go ahead and try what you want to try. You will always be learning.

IMO, overtraining is not a myth but the point at wich one does too much training is the contentious ssue. As we are all unique, you must find your own threshold. You will constantly hear that 12 sets per bodypart is espoused as the threshold. Where is the evidence that it is 12 or for that matter 9 or 16 or whatever. Be analytcal and find your own threshold

Ditto for Vinyl. Everyone is different. Don't be affraid to test the limit of overtraining now and then, sometimes it moves up a little and you can squeeze a little more in. Listen to your body, it will tell you..

I suffered from overtraining syndrome when I was on my uni taekwondo team. I wasn't doing weights at the time, so this is more from an aerobic endurance point of view.

1. My resting heart rate remained at 85. WHich I cuoldn't understand.
2. I was always really tired, legs felt like lead, but had trouble sleeping.
3. COMPLETE lack of motivation to train, feeling shitty about performance.
4. No increase in aerobic or anaerobic fitness despite quite a LOT of training.
5. Flare up of asthma, something that only happens when I'm very run down. Also kept getting colds.

Conclusion: 10 hours of training a week can be too much....

Another woman on my team got PNEUMONIA from reduced immune function due to overtraining.

It's not a myth....
