Overbearing parents have taken the fun out of childhood and turned it into a grind

Yeah, on second thought i'm not sure if they were just really strict or overprotective.
in the end, although my parents were very strict, it didnt teach me anything about making good decisions and when I was out of their sight (away at college) I was extremely immature. I did all the wrong things. And that behavior carried over into my early adult years as well. It took me a long time to catch up maturity-wise. I'm still a little immature for a 37 yr old woman but somehow along the way Ive developed competence that has allowed me to succeed.

new york city kids are tough and savvy. they know where the fuck they're going.
it's just a component of living in the city

the only people who are bashing this are probably stupid fucks from bumblefuck or jesus lovers. go fuck yourself'

that kid is cool. i bet if someone tried to abduct him (it doesn't happen much in Manhattan) he probably would have kicked him in the nuts

I had a curfew until I was 21 yrs old
*I wasnt allowed to have pierced ears or wear make up at all until 16
I wasnt allowed to wear nylons/pantyhose until high school (8th grade graduation I had to wear tights wtf)
*I wasnt allowed to associate with people whom my parents had not met
they would want verification that a parent would be home when I went to other peeps' houses
etc etc

I can relate to your mom and dad *. :)

I casually mentioned to my neighbors that I never see their kids out playing. They are new neighbors. They lost a son to a shooting. Their kids are not allowed to play outside because of that. I can see in this instance why they are a bit overbearing. Then again, it is different down here in the South than it is up there in Kanada.

Dude, don't you live in Tidewater? It's not that bad. Granted, not much happened out in "surprising Suffolk." ;)

I live in Ocean View during the school year and have a house in NC in the summer. We are probably going to permanently move up to VA in August. Not sure where though. I am tired of the execution type shootings in Norfolk. It is the same here in NC, just it doesn't happen as often. No place is safe anymore though.
