seems like everyone trains on the westside system.

is there anyone on here who doesnt?

if so what do you train on?

I use some of the westside tactics but mainly have developed my own training system. I have hammered out a program by testing what works the best for me without blindly relying on somone elses ideas. It has taken about three years to finalize what I am doing now but I am always looking for ways to improve my workouts.

Scotsmann>That's a very mature answer! It's incredible how much it is possible for "smart" people to make gullible people do to their own body just because it sounds good. Reading the different sites on the internet about bodybuilding and powerlifting sometimes gives you a feeling of being surrounded by some leftovers of the snakeoil salespeople from the wild west. Anything goes.

If you listen/read enough different opinions you will come to exactly the same conclusion as Scotsman has arrived at. That you should keep an open mind and learn from as many people as possible, but never consider anything the ultimate truth if it doesn't feel good for you.

Some of the new systems later turns out to be outright bad and others might be good for some people some of the time, but not for all, and not at any time.

Personally, I don't know enough about the Westside system to have a specific opinion on that system, but I'm doing Max-OT right now, and when I reach my limit with that system, I'll change to something else.

Always listen to your body, and don't just go with the flow.

The warm-up part of Max-OT works excellent for me in just about all routines, but I've been wondering if the 12-10-6-3-1 warm-up sets might be too much when we're talking deadlift?

Even though it's done with only 50% of 1RM, 12 reps followed by 10 reps still takes it's toll on the body when it's deadlifts we're dealing with. And there's not much point in warming up in a way, that exhausts your muscles before getting to the final muscle building set.

But on the other hand, I don't want to take on 90% of 1RM without being warmed-up sufficiently. What is you experience with warming up the Max-OT way for deadlifts?

this is the Deadlift workout I hit last week

10x135 warm up
6x225 warm up
5x315
2x405
1x455
1x485
3x435

then I hit rack pulls w/ straps

5x405
3x495
3x545

then I go on to Max-OT back workout

I don't follow the Max-OT warm ups....if you read how Jeff Willet warms up he just hits 2-3 warm up sets

Thanks Beleriand_K I know the feeling of the snake oil thing. It drives me crazy especially when I see personal trainers at the gym putting everyone on exactly the same program. They never take into account age, sex, body type, or the persons goals. Oh well before I get into a rant.

Personally, I don't like the Westside system, I tried it for 6 months and all my lifts went down! You have to be on roids for it to work, even Louie said that in his interview in www.t-mag.com
I pretty much follow Ed Coan's routines. He is very basic and brutal in his training. He is simplistic and precise in his planning and forethought.
I just do a couple of warm ups for my big lifts and then 2 all out sets and that's it, besides the assistance work. And only that requires about 2 movements per bodypart for 1 warm up and 2 sets of 6-10 reps.
I only train 3-4 times a week.
I've been doin' his type of training for 4 years and I believe it has helped me set and break many world, national, and state records.

You do not need to be on roids for his system to work and he never said that. What he does say is that the way he trains you woudl have to. Keep in mind Louie trains 15-20 times per week. He has also been at it for 30 years or so. I trained westside drug free and had great results, and I train that way w/drugs and still continue to make gains. Hell, I even made #41 on PLUSA's top 100(242's) last year being drug free. IF you know anything about that list you should know there aren't many people in the top 50 that are clean. Any system will work to a point if you believe in what you are doing adn understand on how to get point B. I would stack the people up that train using westside stuff up against the way Eddie Coan trains any day of the week. Ed Coan is a freak and would be great any way he trained, period.
