I am a 25-year-old mother with a 7-year-old daughter. This is my story.

Early July of this year I started on the Nuvaring (not the first time), All was well for the three weeks except for the fact that that I had some real bad mood swing. I thought it would go away because this is how it was the last time. After the 3 weeks of having, the ring in I took it out, and put another one right in. You are supposed to leave the ring out for a week to go through your cycle and the replace it with a new one. It is not against the law to skip your period, so I did just that.

A few days later, I was lying in bed and the room started to spin, so I closed my eyes and went to sleep. The next morning, I woke up got dressed for work and out the door, I went. Around noon that day I was sitting t my desk and out of no where my heart felt like it was going to blow right out of my chest, I was not able to catch my breath and then my vision started to go in and out. I was going to go home and lay down and one of my co workers told me just to go lay in my car just in case something happened someone would be near me. I would say about 10 min later I was in the E.R and was told that I had PSVT (heart condition) so I went home to lay down. The next day I was back in the E.R and then they told me I was depressed and had anxiety, which I new was not the case but ok what ever the Doctors say. I had told them about the pills (not bc) I had taken a few days before and they told me that was not the issue and nor was the birth control I was on. So back home I went and slept most of the day. The following day I got myself together enough to get in the car and Pick up my Daughter from my Brothers House (her vacation) the next Morning I was on my way back to the E.R! In addition, was told the something again.

Well I am a woman and have lived in my Body for 25 years and I know it like no other. By this time, I wanted noting in my body so I took my Nuvaring out and Guess what. After my cycle I was fine. To be honest I thought my body was reacting to the medication (not BC) I had taken the week before, so after 2 weeks of being back to normal I made the choice to go back on the ring.

I put it on Monday Aug 22 and on Friday the 26 I was at work and all hell broke loose in my body, vision off, heart pounding, weakness, tired ect. So went outside to get some air and that did not work and the rest of my day was a mess. The next day I was fine, went on about my life, and went to spend time with family and friends. Well just when I thought all was well.....Sunday I woke up in a panic, heart racing, crying and tingling in my arms, neck, back and chest, all of the same symptoms I had before. My boyfriend grabbed the box that the Nuvaring came in and started to read and much to our surprise I had all the worst symptoms. I picked up the phone, called the on-call Doctor, and went over my findings. He then told me “Well I think you have found your problem! Can you take it out? I told him I had just removed it about 10 min ago. He said Ok, and I should call my Doctor On Monday to get back on a different form Of BC. In return I told him that I was done with the shit and GOD made it possible for my to have children and I will be damned if I am going to mess my body up any longer and I hung up the phone.

Ever since the ring was taken out I have been a mess. I am going through my second natural cycle now. There was a period of a 2 weeks where I was fine and then BAM all hell breaks loose once again.

I'm taking a tone of vitamins right now. the Doctors have tryed to push prozac down my throat. My family doctor gave me paxil and I used that for 6 days and "said no more". Today is the first day with out any medication. I had a rough morning but fell some what ok now!

If you can think of anything else I need to do please let me know!!!
Thanks!!!!

what medication?
Nuvaring is birth control but u never said the other type of medicaiton you are on?

Also sometimes we get paranoid.. after we get bad reactions to things we think they are still there.. just a thought

Hey Covergrl :):

You posted me privately but before I responded to that I noticed this posting ... truth be told, you telling it makes it MUCH clearer than your dear BF's ... his heart's in the right place but he's not so hot at history of present illness.

What medications and vitamins (prescription and otherwise) are you currently taking? A ton of vitamins isn't necessarily needed ... let's take a look at that first.

You said all hell still breaks loose, I'm assuming that's the emotional upheaval with physical problems like you were getting when you were still on the Nuvaring (but now you're NOT using it)? The heart pounding, vision fading in and out (you could actually be getting orthostatic hypotension from the tachycardia), room spinning, etc.?

The symptoms you're describing COULD be purely emotional, but I have a hunch they're not. Your BF strongly believes that your problems are purely endocrine (hormonally) based, I'm not so sure, but I won't say it's impossible.

Here's an example: HYPERthyroidism (too much thyroid) will cause a LOT of the symptoms you're describing, but I would also expect you to be also either losing your hair, or losing weight, or your hands would be shaking, or you'd be too hot, or some combination of the above. And there's more than one potential cause of hyperthyroidism.

I'm not trying to scare you, I'm just trying to point out that long range diagnosis with sketchy details is dangerous business.

If you think you're dealing with an estrogen inbalance the safe, easy way to eliminate that as a problem is to go the health food store and buy a good natural progesterone cream and use 1/8 teaspoon twice a day for two weeks, starting fourteen days after your period started, you want to rub it into your tummy, thighs, inner arms, soft skin that doesn't get a lot of sun, and rotate locations. But estrogen dominance generally doesn't cause tachycardia ...

A panic attack causes many of the symptoms you're describing, too, but usually a panic attack doesn't wake you out of your sleep ... and panic attacks generally don't make you excessively tired.

I'm really beginning to wonder if the Nuvaring isn't just coincidental ...

Think really hard, is there some pattern, time wise, to the episodes? They seem to happen sort of in conjunction with your periods, but I'm wondering if there's some place you're going (work or home or somewhere else) and your getting exposed to some sort of chemical, like pesticides or cleaning agents ... chemical sensitivity would cause ALL of the symptoms your describing, but it's damn tough to diagnose, there are no definitive tests for it, it's sort of a process of elimination and intuition.

Thanks for the reply!

Well I can not think of anything that I have done diffrent in my home life, work life or just my life period.

Right now I am up in the air about the whole thing. I am not sure if my head is on the right way,or up my ass trying to figure this crap out.

The episodes seem to come and go. I will be ok for a few weeks and them all hell breaks loose once again. My mornings seem to be real bad. As the aftrenoon draws near I start to feel better from the on. I can only think that is is hormonal at this point.

Almost a week to the day before I started me period is when I started to feel all the symptoms again.

Another thing that is diffrent then before is that my boobs would always get sore right before my cycle. These last cycles that have not been sore at all(weird)

Okay .. the timing of the moodiness with the breast soreness really tweaks it for me, add that to the fact your BF said you've had a couple of funky periods, and your loss of libido, the mood/depression, I definitely think you're having anovulatory periods (not releasing an egg).

The one thing you could try that's totally natural and totally harmless is the natural progesterone cream I mentioned. Try that for this month and see how you feel. If it's what you need, you'll know in less than a month. The cream costs under $20 a tube. One of the common side effects of using progesterone cream (besides a general mood calming effect) is breast soreness, it's actually like the only negative side effect.

Check out Dr. John Lee's book, that explains all the fun details about hormones, artificial hormones, estrogen, progesterone. Insufficient progesterone will make you feel like you're losing it. On the plus side if it's what you need your body will straighten itself out.

I'm curious, would you happen to be getting headaches/migraines, or shooting pains in your eyes?

Groovy, hope it works. Just keep in mind you do want to measure it and you do want to be using it the two weeks before your period is due. The EPO is good stuff, too, and I'm saying a little prayer that your doctor has their head screwed on straight this Monday!!! BTW, don't mention the cream to the doctor or it's going to make their head explode ;)

you say not to use the cream until 2 weeks before my period is due. Why? I have been using it while I'm going through my cycle. And about the headaches. Last week I had a headach for days. Not to the piont I could not stand it but to the point it made me mad because there was nothing what would get it to go away, and yes, sometimes my eyes would hurt (behind them)

OH, I almost forgot to let you know what vitamins I was using at the present.
Vitamin C 1000
Vitamin B complex
Vitamin E 400IU
Soy pills
Primrose oil (before bed)
Melatonin (before bed)

Why should I not tell the Doc about the cream????
