OK GUYS it's time to come out and say it.

thanks cubanito.

i have done it all diet and weight wise.

when i was 23, i was 320lbs and big as hell but way FAT.

when i was 27, i decided i wanted to look like a bodybuilder and got down to like 235.

when i was 29, i decided i wanted to be a powerlifter for real this time, but not look fat and compete at a healthier weight class for myself.

a lot of it is genetics. some people are endomorphs and it will be hard for them to get 'fit' looking. some are ectomorphic and it will be hard for them to get big.

IMO, to be the best powerlifter you can, i think your training needs are different. you will need to get blockier, cut out all the bodybuilding rep shit (except you freak19 :) and stick to the basics.

i actually think dieting remains somewhat consistent for all body types. avoid a lot of sugar. eat a lot of protein (and fat). if you want to gain weight, increase the calories (slowly). if you want to lose weight decrease the calories (slowly).

i actually do not like eating. you dont want to know how much money i spend on protein powder. but if you have a healthy appetite and the time each day to eat 5-6x, you don't need it. i am too busy and dont like much food except steak and hamburgers. can't exactly fire up the old grill at work 3 x a day.

good luck.

i totally agree with you irish. i end up drinking alot of my calories due to time and i guess for a big part my laziness. i just dont like to cook and dont really feel like going out all the damn time. when i make food it's something simple. beans and rice. peanut butter sandwich. cheese and wheat toast.

Irish ok I know i've seen some of ur pics so. I'm 18(on saturday) and weighed in at 202 today. I normally eat daily about 200g fat 350g protein and like over 700g carbs. Now my strength has been going up from this but when I was 160lbs and ate only like 2,500 cals/day my strength was goin up slowly but steady now it's goin up ALOT faster. So how should I change my diet to lose the gut????

VDOP thats' what I love bout this board everyone WILL come out and say the truth.

Deciever, I was skinnier than you at your age. You have seen pics of me recently taken. Not skinny anymore. I hope you can lift at 220 or 242 someday with a 6 pack. Some can, but you may have to grossly overeat like I did to get the size you are looking for.

Strength is worth losing the six pack.

B.

i dont know what i plan to compete at when i am older. I am gonna try and gain a lb or 2 a month. Maybe get up to around . I never plan on going over probably 220,. i like to look nice(not saying 220's dont) but i like my six pack. Losing that would be like losing a best friend. ::tear:: the sacrifices we have to make....

cubanito:

everyone is different. In my personal opinion, and I feel wierd giving diet advice is:

1. you are taking in too many carbs. I am not sure your level of activity (i guess you ARE young), but 45 minutes of a westside workout, while it will keep you winded, just does not require that much to fuel it. also, 6000 calories a day is a crapload. I don't take that in now, and I weigh 275. I think you may be influenced by those stupid ass bodybuilding mags which say to eat 3 lbs of meat a day and 10,000 calories :)

so... if i were to advise you: up the protein, and cut your carbs down.

losing strength is a matter of a few things.

1. nitrogen balance determined by amount of amino acids made ready available to your muscles. (it gets more technical.. just search on it cause i hate quoting stuff incorrectly)
---things like juicing and/or stress can positively/negatively effect this

2. biomechanical advantage (leverage) lost from losing fat and water in your body

3. burning more calories than you are consuming. the fuel has to come from somewhere and it comes from muscle AND fat. this makes it harder to stay strong while dieting but it is not impossible.

good luck.

Deciever those cals are MOSTLY clean like maybe 4,500 are clean and the rest are bad foods. HEY you know it's hard to be young and not eat junk food when EVERYONE around you that's all they eat.

Irish I know it's hard to help others out with diet and the reason I know is b/c at work people will see me eat 1lb of chicken tenders, 4 hawaiin rolls, and 2 sodas and ask me if that's part of my diet and can they do the same and lose weight and all this other shit. I know I was eatin too many carbs but it wasn't due to BB magazines honestly I work at publix and I have muscle&fitness right there and I look at it and laugh b/c all there is in there is fake shit people tryin to say that with glutamine they gained like 50lbs on their bench and gained 10lbs BW(not steroids or anything). Either way the reason I was eating SOOO much is b/c the guys on here told me I had to start takin in more cals than when I was taking in 3,000 they said they'd eat that before noon and I believe them now since I prob do too sometime. But I will cut carbs down to about 500/day fat to 150/day and protein 300/day. Isn't it tru that for every gram of protein you need 2 of carbs?????

not sure about that ratio.

the only thing should make sure of is this:

1. you are getting sufficient amounts of water in to match an increased protein intake. i drink 1 - 1.5 gallons of milk a day, plus a lot of diet soda so there is plenty of liquids to flush my body/kidneys.

2. remember that complex carbs such as pasta and rice are all broken down into sugar, but at a much slower rate (glycemic index). ironically, so is milk sugar even though its technically a simple carb. if you are getting your carbs through these sources, they are better for your body and more likely not to cause you to get fatter.

don't worry too much about the science of it. just make your adjustments slowly and you can watch what happens. you sound like a big kid already @ 200lbs bodyweight. there is no need for you to be stuffing in that amount of crap into your body.

take care.

Accordin to my brother that is more of the bodybuilder if I cut down the gut I'll probably stay around 185 or so and I can gain weight as long as I keep eatin clean granted one day a week a cheat day, NOT the whole day. And about the liquids TRUST ME I drink enough liquids I'm guessing 1.5 gals of water and other liquids along with that I love gatorade, crystal light(although this can count as water). The only thing I know is that I need to start eatin those good carbs. The only good carbs right now I'm takin in are probably the ones in the shakes, and the carbs in like chicken breast wit the batter. I'm sure cereal, pizza, bread, muffins, ice cream, french fries(cooked on the foreman grille).

So basically i've been eating no good carbs. DAMN I gotta start.
