what is the best kind of oatmeal to eat in the am?
I have a store brand of old fashioned and i have a quick one in the tall cylinder shaped containers. They both read the the same fiber content on the label. I'm usually still hungry after my am pro shake so i need something fast.Hopefully oatmeal is ok for weight loss :worried:
I never eat the quick but was wondering if my reg. oatmeal is not up to snuff!
Some guidance please!
thanks!

My wife eats steel cut oats only. She also sometimes mixes it in with her pro shake. Kind of a home made mrp!

I have heard of those but never seen them in stores. Where can you get them?

trader joes, wild oats, whole foods market. I think you can get McCann's Irish steel cut at regular stores. Quaker WHOLE oats are good, good dry too with Natty apple sause and ANPB. Cream of Wheat is also pretty good morning food, but I like oats best.

So my old fashioned oats are ok then??. I assume they are the slow cooking variety.
I nuke em' so it only takes 2 min.

they're fine. the only difference between old fashioned and quick cook is that the oats are broken down more so that they cook faster. the reason people prefer old fashioned and steel cut is because they're in a more whole form, and your body works harder to break them down.

another example of this would be a whole, baked potato and mashed potatoes (without the butter & cream, of course). They're the same potato, but one is broken down more and much easier to digest.

Old fashioned oats are better than OK... They taste better, they are better/cleaner for you and keep you fuller longer... I only know because I got 'yelled' at here for eating instant ;-)

I love oats, but old fashioned are my fave :p I never eat the quickie anymore. I have them on hand for recipes...like cookies over christmas and stuff.
