Hi Everybody,

I’m a 21 year old male from Canada, weighing in at a disgusting 218 lbs at 5’10. Hence, I need some bloody help fast, because I’m going downhill faster. I used to be in great shape, playing rep-hockey, all-star soccer, and so on, but have since had to quit because of time constraints with school and work. I’ve been lurking around the site for a while now researching different types of diets to pursue to help me get back on track. The one that really caught my attention was that used by Pintoca, generally for its relative simplicity. The complicating factor is that I’m a type 1 (insulin dependant) diabetic, and have been since the age of 11. So, do any of you know of some good resources for type 1 diabetes in relation to dieting? How well do you think the diet used by Pintoca would work for a diabetic? I’m not looking for a quick fix, I seriously need to change my lifestyle. Any information that I should take into account regarding diabetes and supplement usage if I decide to go that way? I tried to do a search of the site, but that’s for platinum members only, so if diabetes and dieting has been discussed before just lead me to it.

Anyways, now I’ve got my first post under my belt, hopefully you guys and gals have some much needed information for me. Give me some diet pointers even if it does not take diabetes into account, because its better than nothing! Essentially, I’ve got a month and a half left to get a diet figured out through the summer, and hopefully get myself settled into a good routine by the beginning of school so that I can follow it throughout the semesters.

Thanks for any help you can give,

Bro, I ran a search on diabetes on found nothing related to your diet.

However, I think that the main implication for you, since the diet is basically low GI carbs throughout the day (you will not have any blood sugar spikes during the day) , is going to be the PWO shake. You simply cannot have 50grs of glucose all of a sudden in your body. There are a couple of ideas that come to mind, but I will refrain from posting them since this is a serious condition.

My best advice is, take the diet to your Dr. and explain what you want to do, Ask specifically about the carbs you will be taking during the day (oats, whole wheat bread) and their timing. Finally, ask about what can be done with the PWO shake. NOT having a PWO shake will have an effect (can't tell how big, probably not that big) on how much muscle you will keep during your cutting. If worse comes to worse and you cannot have it, you will lose fat just the same, but will lose also some LBM with it. You can gain it back afterwards, so no big issue.

Ask your Dr about it.

thanks, Pintoca. Ya, i'm basically just looking for as much clarification as i can find before i get to the doctor. Thanks, for any more help you all can give.
