NO LEGS!! Where do I start?

Growing up all I ever did was bench. I mean I would do 3 or 4 sets a week of squats a week but I lifted by myself in my basement with weights I got from walmart. I'm entering a powerlifting meet this month but only bench. I want to start legs but need advice on what, how much and how often. I would like to be able to start competing in all 3 events with some success with in the next couple of years. What should I do to start getting them stronger?

Box squat, good mornings, hyperextensions.

Also, read anything you can find by Louie Simmons or Dave Tate regarding squatting. They are both 900+ squatters. You can find their articles at elitefts.com, goheavy.com, deepsquatter.com.

And be patient. It takes a while to adjust to box squatting, and it takes a while to adjust to squatting with your hips and hamstrings rather than quads. But it is worth the wait.

You are a valuable asset to this board Brian. You are a wealth of knowledge. And when you dont know something you take time to look it up. Maybe instead of Brian, we can unscambble your name which is really Brain! BrainMincher!

I am in a good mood today!

just start from scratch like you did on the bench. In time, the legs and the lift will come. get em!

thanks Jay,

I really appreciate that. I am weird like this about everything that I do. It is probably a mental disorder or something.

This is no bullshit, true story: When I was in my first year of law school, I decided to take up golf because that was a popular thing to do amongst that crowd. Before ever hitting the links, I went to the library and checked out 7 different books on how to play golf, and read every one of them before picking up a club. then I spent 6 months on a driving range before playing my first round. The payoff? Before I graduated law school (2 1/2 years) I was consistently shooting in the 70's, with one round under par.

When I got invited to a poker game my last year of school, I did the same thing, went to the library and read a bunch of books on poker playing and poker strategy, and cleaned up when I went to play.

I know that is strange, but when I get into something I feel an almost pathalogical need to do these things. I have given up golf, because I don't have the time and money to pursue all of my hobbies, and raise kids, so something had to go, and the kids bear my last name, so by-by golf.

Speaking of unscrambling my name, I am interested in changing my handle if anyone knows how to do it. Using my real name on here and my e-mail, might not be the smartest thing to do, it has occured to me.

Thanks again, I am in a good mood today too.

Grantsdu: when you finally get your routine set of for doing legs you'll see your gains are gonna come quick and before you know it you'll be squating and deadlifting way more than your bench.

Brian: Dude that's pretty cool how you research everything, I'm saying b/c i'm the same way but a little different. I'll start something and if I like it and know what i'm doing wrong then I'll research to see how I can perfect it. And after I perfect it (say technique) then I'll research how to improve it overall.

I wish i could play inthe 70's. Shit i love golf. But i suck at it. No matter how much i study it.

Brian you would have to probably resign up under a new handle. That would suck. I would resign if you wanna talk about anabolics and shit but here it is fine. No stalkers.

But i will call you Brain! That is your name now!
