Newbie seeking advice

I know targeting fat is out of the question, but i would like some ideas on exercises to help with that area...and whether or not yohimbie really targets women's lower body fat. Since highschool i have ranged between 135 and at my heaviest was 165 (thankfully only for a few months) but with that 30lb difference, i have always worn the same size pants b/c of that spot where the fat just never seems to go anywhere. I want to get out of my size 12 pants back down to some single digits. No one believes i wear that size...but it's that stubborn spot of fat that keeps me there!

I know you wanted to get back to the original topic but my .02 on smoking......I gave up 2 days ago and already I have been able to double my cardio (!!!). I am so much fitter that I can do more cardio so I'm gonna lose some of my squidge. Also get less tired doing weights so can lift for longer. So give up. It's hard but if it's any consolation I'm suffering too ......

Hey spatterson, i hope you don't think i am ignoring your reply of diet and exercise, i was just hoping to get more people's opinions. I am already on a good clean diet and am working my butt off in the cardio and weight department. Just wondering why nothing seems to work on that one spot of fat. I have done this in the past with a clean diet and working out and no matter how small i got, i still had that fat in that spot.

RE:

help w/ fat in "that area" -- the reason you have stubborn fat in that area is because that is where you, partly due to standard estrogen-related bodyfat deposits and partly because this is your personal distribution of fat cells, have more fat cells than in other parts.

Say you did very strict diet, cardio, lifting consistently for a couple months -- you would see all the other areas of your body tighten up, possbly appear to "shrink". But those trouble areas would still appear to not be affected. The idea is that you are dropping bodyfat proportionally around the total area of your body. The areas with larger number of fat cells wil be the last to appear to go.

You can do things like focus on lifting such as squats or something to build those muscles a little, but you can't "target" those areas. As spatts said, stick to a tight diet and training and be patient. DIET is still the key.

THe only way I am aware of "reducing" the fat cell deposits in those trouble areas is lipo.

I'm not an expert, but this is my understanding of the "spot reduction" issue. PLease add or correct if there is anything that doesn't jive....
