Newbie Help...

Ok guys, forgive me for posting this.

I am 6'6" around 230lbs. Kinda on the thin side.

I am looking to tone up and increase strength. Right now not planning on getting huge but things will probably change once i get into it :)

What are some tips/pointers that you would give.

Diet wise I eat pretty good. I am a diabetic so there is no sugar in my diet :)

Also, does anyone have any sites that would give a good layout to a workout plan?

I have access to a full gym.

Have a good day and forgive me for being new to this.

Bro, why would you apologize for being new? Every single person on here started somewhere. Some of the biggest baddest guys(and girls) on here started as clueless little twigs. You sound like you've already got some size on you to start with.

I'm not going to attempt to help you with your diet because I'm unfamiliar with the diabetic aspect. I'm sure someone else can help there.

The sites for workout plans you asked for is right here. roll through the board for a while and you'll find a ton of stuff. More than you'll need.

These are some sort of simple rules.....

Eat like a 300# guy
Forget about isoaltion stuff(curls, kickbacks, etc) If you want to do these, do only a few after the real lifts are done
Deadlift(conventional and dead), squat, military press, bench, etc. Heavy compound shit that makes you want to puke is what you want right now.
Never lift more than 4 days a week.
Sleep like a lazy bastard and nap when you can
Get in the gym, lift hard and heavy(no bullshit), then leave...should never be more than 1 hr.
For a good training plan, cruise the boards, there's a ton of them. Find one that works well for you and stick with it for a while.

Also, at 6'6", when you get big....you're going to look fucking huge:) Something to look forward to.

Easy there tiger....let's not have the poor guy puking on the squat rack quite yet shall we?

Chris - my friend gives good advice, stick to the basics. As for your diet, I'm sure that as a diabetic you're familiar with the gylcemic index. If not, do a search on it. You can lift normally without sugar, but it would be wise for you to learn good carbs from bad.

Other than that, if I could add anything to Teapot's list of stuff, it's that getting your ass in the gym is half the battle. Most people fail not because of poor workouts, but because they just give up. Don't worry about doing the perfect workout right away. Just start lifting. Learn as you go like we all did. Don't overthink it and talk yourself into quitting because you're not lifting like the big boys. That's a common failing among newbies. Consistency is key!

Man what I wouldnt do to be just starting out again...research as much as possible and make sure the info you get is accurate and reliable. If you put in the time and effort you are gonna see great gains right away..faster then you will later on down the road, so enjoy them now and stick with it.

..also a newbie

...I guess from the post i have read, i think i came to the right place, i am also a newbie, and i am planning to start a "body-muscle-tonning program for myself. i am asian, 28yrs old, 5'6" 175lbs. i am very much eager to improve my figure rather than my strength, lose the love-handles and just have a descent muscle tone, i am not into bulky muscles... i do hope you get the idea of what i would like to ask... a gym just openned here, due to hectict work schedule i only plan to be a "walk-in" member. i need a program, to loose the love handles and improve upper body muscle (tone)... hope anyone can recommend a descent program for me... it would be very much appreciated...

a beginner routine

Mon: Deadlift, Pull-ups, Bentover rows, Curls, Shrugs

Wens: Flat Bench, Iincline bench, Military press, Close-grip bench

Fri: Squat, leg ext, leg curl, calf raises

Work with higher reps at first to get your form down I would say try for 3 sets of 10 and add weight when you can do all three sets to 10. Good form is a must so remember to pause at the bottom of all lifts and get full range of motion

...more details..

... i guess i neglected to mention how new i am to all this... very new. as in this is my first time. so i guess i'm gonna go straight to the point.... i didnt quite understand all those terms you gave me, so if you could recommend to me website or something where i can familiarize myself with those terms you mentioned..

...thank you very much for your immediate reply, i am about to start tomorrow, and i guess, your reply was very timely. Thanks a great deal...
