Hey Jen that's a great workout huni well done. I was thinking if you ask Zed if maybe you add ohp to your workout that would help you strengthen the shoulders which might help you hit the pull ups. Just a thought ! Well done tho sister !
 
jen, you can have 3-4 servings of nuts between meals (2 palm fulls), nuts are calorie dense and contain micro nutrients and omega3 fatty acods

Since I've been on EF I have really been trying to eat more protein as you fine folks helped me realize that I wasn't eating near enough protein. I've seen a huge difference in my body since eating more protein. So here's what I'm wondering. I am getting most of my protein from chicken, eggs/egg whites, turkey (ground turkey..turkey burgers...), fish and other lean meats. However, lately, I feel as if I eat one more piece of meat I'm gonna chunk. I just made myself an omelet with 1 whole egg and several egg whites with some 2% cheese and tons of vegetables. I took one bit and just about gagged!! It's like I just cannot eat anymore of the same stuff. anyone else get like that? Have different alternatives? I know gettiing my protein from 'real' foods is best, but just for a week or two, to give myself a break, is it ok to just drink a lot of protein shakes? Just to give myself a break from chicken and eggs? I couldn't even eat my omelet. I shoved as much down as I could. Any suggestions?

You're 2 cents is well appreciaated and welcomed. Sorry if I didn't make myself clear but you know how you mentioned in your log that you couldn't even stand to look at the chicken so you had a bison burger? That's how I am feeling. I am not literally nauseous but it's like I've had to much chicken that when I look at it, it's just like 'ugh!!' A few nights ago I had some broiled chicken and could only eat a few bits without feeling like if I ate another bite I was going to puke just from it being boring or nasty or the same ol' same ol'. Make sense?

I take a huge helping dose of fiber every day..so not to be gross back, but I'm like a proctologists dream!! I'm as regular as they come!! :mix:

Maybe this will help too....Just by likes and dislikes..I've never been much of a meat eater. No reason really. Just not my favorite thing to eat. Like I don't sit around and crave a good piece of chicken or steak like some people do. So, sometimes, forcing myself to eat meat, which is what I've been doing because I KNOW I need it for protein and to build muscles, just is gross. I've literally eaten so much chicken that a chicken truck full of chickens (I guess to take to slaughter) have pulled up beside me and I've gagged. Thinking..ugh..chicken!!

Way too long of an explanation. Yeah I know it can't be good to get off food....Tell me what you sugggest. Give me about $1.00's opinion this time!!

Then back to meat. And hey sista there is other meat then chicken you know. Try frozen fish fillets. Haddok is not fishy at all if its fresh, Pollok, Orange Roughy and Salmon are all really good. A whole diff texture and of course taste then chicken. Mix it up gurl and enjoy! Hell as much as I like food I couldnt live on just chicken or even just steak. And I really really love steak!

I'm doing that tonight Zed..eating whateva I want!! Just ordered a mega fest of chinese and gonna follow that with chocolate..as much as I want! :) I want to eat so much crap that I feel sickk. Im stoked (if you can't tell) as I love to eat..especially shitty food!!

Can you give me a sample diet or meal
Plan just to see what kinds of things you would have me eating? How many meals? Protein intake should be 1 gram per body weight right?

OK I will lay out foods but not quantities as what a day would look like. But just so you know this is how I eat. I am not good at doing 5+ meals per day. I do real well at 3 or 4 so keep that in mind.

Beakfast
eggs with some kind of meat
1 pc multi grain bread with natty PB
coffee


Snak
Better Protein Bar


Lunch
glass of 2% milk
meat and cheese with or without 1 or 2 slices of multi grain bread
Dates


Maybe a snak
Shake or Better Protein Bar


Dinner
Big ass portion of meat usually beef, as in 16-20 oz cut of NYS or lean pork or chicken or turkey or fish
Something green big portion
Dates
Better Protein bar

Done for the day


This usually comes out to 3000-4000 cals with 300-600 grams protein.
So you will have to watch portion control. Fit day works very well for that. You may wanna forget the 2% milk.

With the eggs for me I use 2 whole eggs and then 4 or 5 whites.

Your caloric load is so small that for me that would be like my shake.
Here is what I put in my shake just for you understand,

20 oz 2% milk
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 heaped tablespoon natty PB
1 packet gelatine

As for the kind of foods you should eat and I feel this is prolly the most benefidial part of this for you, as follow
All/any lean meats
Beef, pork, poultry, fish, wild game meat, bison.
Whole eggs and egg whites
Hard boiled eggs make a gr8 snak
Mixed nuts but no penuts
Green, yellow and orange veggies
Small amounts of multi or whole grain breads
yogurt
low fat cottage cheese (2%)
milk 2%
Dates
Avacados
Natty PB
Olive oil
WATER
If you wanna gain weight add in brown rice.

Ask all you want as I knwo this is pretty broad. And continue to ask Cutie as she is an awsome resource. She just plain rocks!
And use RADAR too.
Feel free to keep asking if Im not answering what you want to know.
 
Zed...I've read some research lately suggesting that eating every 3-4 hours promotes better protein synthesis and that eating 4-5 meals a day is just as productive and may even be better then 7-8. A lot of the national level competitors that I follow are moving beyond some of the dieting methods we all "grew up with" and it's really fascinating to learn.

I think I had suggested 1700 calories for Jenn, initially, as she was only at 1400, so I figured she could start there and build on it. I thought she'd be sick to her stomach if she went right from 1400 up to say 2000 or 2200. Sort of a reverse dieting idea. :)

Cali..You can do no wrong in my opinion girl! I knew and remembered exactly why you suggested 1700 calories. And I think you're right. If I tried eating 2200 calories right now I'd probably puke. Although..I wonder sometimes if I might be eating that much....I've been starving lately :) I stopped measuring and counting the last few weeks. Just needed a break from it. So I'll start back up. Thanks for your guidance and advice. Again, you've been another 'professor' to me in this arena. Appreciate it!

Great post Zed. Some good info in there. Starting with 4-5 meals for someone who is not used to eating like that is probably a good idea. Or you can force feed yourself like I do by the clock. Lol Good luck Jen.

7 total maam. There are different theories on this but I will explain the best I can. I am currently bulking so to get in enough calories to reach 6000 is very difficult to do especially with food being the main resource. Shakes are great but they are no way as anabolic as real food. I limit my shake count per day to two usually. However even when I am cutting I still eat the same number of times a day I just use much smaller portions. The mindset behind eating so many times a day is that it keeps your metabolism constantly working therefore placing the body in a more thermogenic state. There have been some pros now that are rasing the idea of doing this with 4-5 meals a day but I stick with what works for me. Does that make sense? Lol

Agree with OWL on the benefits of his style of dieting. To get more then 5000 cals per day in you just have to eat 6,7 and even 8 times per day. Eating at this point becomes a job and it really is hard to get that amount of cals down your throat.

Cutie what you said is interesting. I did not know that but I will def look for more reading mtl on it.

I agree....especially for bulking and trying to get that much food in. You have to make eating your job almost. I'm very similar to OWL in that I seldom use shakes. If I needed 3000 calories, I'd be supplementing a bit but always try to choose real food.

I have experimented with different diet types, including intermittant fasting, and for me, somewhere between 4-6 meals for cutting seems to be ideal. That's where I see my best results and am able to be more consistent too.

Jenn...you'll get there. As you try different things and see the different results, you'll find what works best for you.

I started my new Zed-approved training schedule today and wanted to make a separate log for it so I could follow and track it easier. Thank you so much Zed for offering the program and for working with me. I appreciate it. Also thank you to everyone on EF!! I am so thankful that I found and joined EF!! Alright yesterday's workout was tough. Not weight-wise but I literally didn't sleep Tuesday nite so it showed in my workout. It was a struggle. Got sleep last nite though and feel better.

Anyone know some good natural sleep alternatives? I know about melatonin..is it supposed to work? Think my sleep will get back on track once I get in a routine in my clinicals and move. Too much on the spud at the moment.

If you wanna do auxilaries thats fine sista. But change your rep scheme and pile on the weight. That way you will over load and will then see the results in your pull ups. So do something like 5x3 or 4x6 nad put on all the weight you can handle.

Duck Walk
You could benefit from this too sweetea. Help strengthen and stretch entire posterior chain.

After watching your vid several more times you deff need to lower your hips more. So on your off days do this. Keeping your back as str8 as you can, drop down into a squat just like a baby does. For the first few time just hold that for whats comfortable.
But then after the first few times do it like this.
Drop down into a babies squat.
Keep your back str8!
Now take steps...walk! We call this duck walking.
This will help loosen you up fast!
Just do it for a few mins several times per day on your off days.

Then go over to the Deisel site and really watch the vids of them dling.
Write me a detailed explanation of how to do it.

Your mixed grip is gr8 but alternate hands on each set. That way no biceps issues.

Alright everyone. First of all..I hope everybody had the best Christmas ever!! I did and I enjoyed the weekend.

So if you've been reading this log then you might remember that I start my clinicals in January and have to relocate to mobile. Ready to start school and get this year over with!! Yeah I know..hasn't even started yet. Well I took my first load to mobile this week. So I guess you can say I've started my move. I will be going back this weekend to get my last load and then will come back the 7th or so.

All that garbage to say that the gyms were closed yesterday and today I am moving...so I will pick back up on my working out tomorrow. Can't wait. I already have a gym membership in mobile so I've taken care of the important matters!! ;)

Just wanted to give an update. I miss my EF family and I so look forward to following everyone's progress this year. Everybody around me is probably tired of hearin about 'D', 'Zed', 'Cutie', 'Cali', 'Jen', 'Gem'....etc etc!! lol!!

I'll talk and catch up with everyone tomorrow!!

With all the moving turmoil stay especially close to your nutrition and training plans. It will keep you grounded. Stay hydrated. Get plenty of sleep.

Big things are always easier to tackle with a clear head. Go get 'em. And don't show off those muscles too much moving any couches by yourself or anything ;p

Glad you had an amazing Christmas we did too now I can't wait to get back to working out lol I ate like a pig all weekend and now I feel shit ! Lol.

Ha ha....wise word, cutie. Love your posts. My priorities might be out of line for some, but me for, my nutrition and training is numero uno!! Out of everything, it is coming first!!! Thanks for the motivation and the help. Invaluable.
 
Ok everyone...as the world turns....

So, took one load to Mobile..unpacked and got somewhat settled. Visited with my brother some who had flown in from Jersey City. He definitely needs some Ritalin. or something. Anyways. Came back to GA yesterday to finish going through some things and make another load next week. Clinicals start the 9th. So ready to get situated and get in a routine. I've already determined that I will be working out at nights now. About 7 pm. I will work from 8:30 to 5:00 or so every day. My gym doesn't open early enough to go before work. That's ok though. I'm a night owl and used to workout every night, so it will be fine. I'd much rather workout in the morning but there are no gyms close enough to me without traveling way too far. So I've figured that out.

I've been eating extremely clean (thanks cutie) and have been working out. Will post up later tonight as my notebook is somewhere in my car. Will need to get a rescue squad out there to find it. Have only missed 1 or 2 days and that's because the gym was closed. Have been doing my met con. In a minute, I am going to go do Pull exercises and then tomorrow I'm going to do legs. That will have me caught up for the week. The gym is closed Sunday. So Monday I will be back on schedule again. Will go back to Mobile probably Thursday of next week. Whew.

I've been missing everyone on here. How was everyone's Christmas? Thanks so much for all of the motivation and inspiration. LOVE TRAINING!!! Out of everything it is my NUMBER 1 priority!!!

Ok..you know I always require further instruction...so I do my 3 normal lifting days (push, pull, legs) and get you my last 3 rep maxes for the 2nd set? Geez man..did that just make any sense!?

Missed yesterday and today as my gym was closed and it sucks. I hate missing the gym...

I look forward to rooting you on and watching you accomplish your goals in 2012. Love having you as a training partner!! How was your and Elaine's new years?
 
LOL love ya sweetea.
Pick the day you wanna do this, you can do it in place of your workout as it will be a lot of work!
Do a good general warm up.
Then do a good bench warm up.
Put on the bar what you think you can rep 3 times.
Rest.
Add some more weight till you can only get 3 reps.
Do the rest the same way.
