Yeah sweettea I think you are just a little bit over on cardio for right now. See how you like the Met Con and then if you like do that 2x/week and then a run on the weekend. But something like 30 min max on your run. Otherwise you are defeating yourself sista.
And remember no more then 10 min max on the MetCon. After you do it you will know why...LOL!

Yeah I figured as much. Maybe that's why I haven't seen the results that I've wanted over the past year. I'm toning it down some. Worked legs water day and my legs are bumping!! I typically run up and down the stairs (to get to the cardio machines) and I started to sprint up them and quickly thought I was about to eat concrete. Needless to say I walked up and down the rest of them.

Sounds like a great workout short bursts are the key to not loosing fat apparently so should suit you as your building

Ha!! I didn't think about it like that, but I guess it is! oopps! sorry!! :)

Well I didn't do too much strapping on of anything. I tried doing the first few burpees and my legs were so sore I thought 'well this is almost impossible'. I've been walking like Fred Sanford for the past few days...so, I'm going to strap it on today! :) not as sore today. I need to put up my push exercises from yesterday. I'm a day behind. So doing the Met Con today will be all of the cardio I do? Is that right? Trying to get used to not being the cardio queen.

Hey Zed. How many calories you think I should be munching on a day? I have not been able to stick to 1300. A tad too low. Thoughts? (btw..thanks for all of your help Zed. you've been invaluable!!!!!)

LOL!!! Do you know who Fred Sanford is? from Sanford and Son? You should YouTube it and check out his walk. Yeah, John Wayne is a good one too!!! I'm still walking like them both today!!Every time I stand up, I moan and pretty much just have to aim for the toilet and sit and pray that I make it on the seat somewhere!! LOL!! John wayne..huh? I should get a little holster and put a little fake pistol in it. Too late Halloween is already over. I could've pulled that off perfectly!!

I've heard of them D but can't say I know any of their songs. I will look them up though. What is their new track? I'm like you..music is definitely my life. I don't do or go without music. You know how some people couldnt live without TV? Well, I could go forever wtihout TV but not my music.

Because I'm a bit of a nutrition freak...I thought I'd throw this out there for ya to consider.

Based on your stats and using the Harris Benedict Equation (which is a standard equation in the fitness world) your maintenance would be right around the 1450 mark BUT the second part of that equation is to factor in your activity. Just using a moderate activity level (which has it at 3-5 times per week) that would bump your maintenance up to 2235 calories. It would be even higher if you used a higher activity level. The next step, for cutting anyway, would be to subtract 500 calories off that number and take that as your place to start.

Obviously, you're not going to jump right into 2200 calories because you'd probably feel sick trying to eat that much but it will hopefully give you an idea that you can and should be eating more. If you even got up to 1600-1700 and then once you start trying to build more muscle, increase it slightly after that, you will notice a difference. It will just take a few weeks for your body to adjust. I know it's a tough concept to believe..that eating more won't make you fat (eating the right foods, of course lol) but it will definitely impact your results. You can train like a maniac but if your diet isn't dialed in, you won't see the same results. A lot of it is experimenting too and finding the right levels and macro numbers that work but this gives you a ballpark to start with. Hope that might help a little bit! :)

No problemo!

I know...the stupid doctor's office BMI has me at obese, too, and although I could stand to drop a few and lean out....some of them just aren't designed for that extra muscle mass.

You've been trying to get it into mylittle brain that I need to eat more and by gosh Im going to do it!! Thanks D!! Oh, and what a vengeance I have!!! I'm taking it all out on my muscles!! LOL!! I was proud of myself....I've really been trying to work on tightening up my diet..my husband sat next to me last night eating a huge bowl of ice cream and not only did I decline the ice cream but I had no desire for it!! :) I'll get there....Thanks again, D!!
 
Hey CG and friends....I know this is a really elementary question..however, I've gotta ask it. Does muscle weigh more than body fat? So, is that why when I am losing weight but go to the doctor's office and it actually looks like I've gained weight? Some have said that this is not true...So, what's the real answer?
 
Yepper! Muxcle is much more dense then fat therefor weighs more. This is why scales are not the best indicator, infact not as good as how your cloths fit you. Also on the BMI. Its a very poor indicator however thats what insurance comapanies and Dr's use so we just deal with it.

Now something else for you to ponder.....even tho the BMI is a poor tool it is somewhat useful. Would you believe that BBERs are obese? Yes its true. Their bodies are carrying much more weight then is optimal. So that is why some cardio is necessary, in order for us to keep our cardio vascular systems up to par. So it is important for you to do the Met Cons and then maybe a 30 min cardio workout on the weekend. What we need to do is to balance out our cardio so that it does not eat up the muscle that we work so hard for.

Being obese is not necessarily the same as being fat.

Thanks for the excellent post zed. Great post!! I think it was my doc actually that said that it was a 'myth' that muscle weighs more than fat and that it's a way to 'make people feel better' about weight loss. I don't think they know what the crap they are talking about.

Yeah totally agree to think your doc gets paid a fortune and he's misinforming you about a well known fact . I once read a article were it actually showed you 5lb of fat and 5lb of muscle the size of the piece of muscle compared to the fat was nearly double I was shocked!!

That's really sad and pathetic that I was told that. But she said it...she said that it was a way to make people feel better about their weigh by saying 'oh its muscle'. She most certainly said it was a myth and that muscle did not weigh more than fat!!

Foshow it is an ass buster! Bout busted my ass numerous times doing it!! It'd given me another goal though...to beat that met con!!! I'm going to start doing it several times a week and I'm going to bust its ass!! Nope you're not a wuss!! Well if you are then I am too! It was actually a blow to my self esteem seeing that I had been the cardio queen. I must admit that it's been a huge change not doing as much cardio. Feel like I'm cheating myself but I know that it's just because it's a habit and I need to (and have been working on) changing my mindset.

I've had this debate many times too...technically speaking.....1 lb is 1 lb...so 1 lb of fat would weigh the same as 1 lb of muscle BUT...their composition is sooo different so it looks so different. You would look very different at 150 lbs with 30% bf then you would at 150 lbs with 18% bf. Docs just seem to miss that whole second part and spout off information that seems only half right.

Zed is so right when talking about not just paying attention to numbers on the scale but to how your clothes fit and also, your body composition make up.

I use an Accu Measure PLastic caliper. Cheap and simple, however maybe not the most accurate.

Yeah I agree Zed! Both you always are full of great knowledge. Before I started on this site I didn't know much bout nutrition cycles or in fact how my body works while training now from all the help from you guys I learned loads. I've even been considering doing some courses for my own benefit I find it all so interesting.

I agree with you D!! Everyone here is so knowledgeable and exactly what I was looking for!! I thought I was fairly knowledgable (more than the average bear) until I got on this site. I love learning about this stuff. Probably one reason I got a health sciences degree. However it's funny in none of my classes (which were very involved) did they ever mention
Nutrition or exercising and how it played a role, etc. I can definitely see how doctors are not informed. No one at the educational level ever mentioned it!!

One of the new guys at work has a bod pod... He offered to meet me on the weekend to test my bf%... Not sure why, but the hubby wasn't crazy about the idea! Lol.

I just found out that they do the water test at the hospital nearby.. I might call and get the details... It would be nice to get an accurate result...

Just put up the last few days workouts. Been behind postin up. Did met con today and got my jackass whooped!! That's hard man!! Discouraging how hard it is. Tomorrow is legs so I'll make sure to post up. Thursday will be outta town. Friday will go for a run..that's my tentative plan for now folks.

Jen...i had the same problem yesterday. i talk to customers in canada mixed in w/ U.S. ones and say happy thanksgiving at the end of my call and one lady called me out on it yesterday! lol

Hey zed and gang. Sorry for the absence. Went to Virginia to visit my mother-in-law for thanksgiving and we are just getting back home. Ready to get back in the gym today.
