hey i have been doing the 5x5 for 9 weeks strait now. i have gained tons of mass and stregnth but i am starting to show signs of overtaining. i go back to work next week for 8 weeks and i am a mechanic so i will be working all day with my muscles active. i decided i need to cut my volume i was doing the 5x5 with the 2x10 accesries. so my ideas now are either just do squats deads and bench. go to gym 3 days a week and that will be it. do you think that will be enough to contiue to grow if i stay with my bulk diet and keep the intensity up. my other idea was do 5x5 for each muscle group so say squat dead bench then add barbell curl and close grip bench and incline bench. any oppinoin on what you think will help me greatly. i have read alot about weverything growing from just the big 3 but i did not know how well that works. this 9 weeks was my frist time lifting reguarly to and i had mono right before i started. i plan to take a weeek off then start up my new routine. and basically the real question is will my whole body grow and get hit well doing only the big 3 exercises?:fro:

Have you considered doing a 3x5 for a while, or perhaps a 5x3? Those are two variations that Needsize has suggested. If you switch to them, you may still be able to continue progressing. Also you say that you are overtraining, what kind of symptoms are you experiencing? I think a lot of people point the finger immediately at ones program when signs of overtraining appear, however, if your recovery habits are really poor (ie. diet and rest) you will experience overtraining on just about any program in my opinion. So I would check to make sure you are getting adequate rest as well as enough food intake. All this may not have been what you wanted to hear (for it isnt directly addressing your "Big 3 question) but it is something I think is worth thinking about before radically altering your program.

hey i get 10 hours of sleep everyday and eat a full meal every 2 hours so i know my food intake and rest are fine. basically i am not able to get to sleep anymore. my joints are sore, me legs are sore for days on end after a workout way more than before, i am also tired all the time but like i said i cant sleep, i used to sleep 10-12 hours a day no problem. i am still able to go up on weights in my squat dead and bench but when i go to do the 2x10 stuff i am to the point where i have to lower weight to make 10 of somethin i did the week before at a higher weight. i love the program i plan to stick to it i have seen great gains. if u wanna see the gains look at my 6 week progress thread. you will see how well it has worked for me. i think i just pushed myself to hard for to long. i jsut want to cut back because at work i am taxing my body all day as a mechanic. i was wondering if i could see gains by cutting all the way back to just squats deads and bench or do i need more to grow. :fro:
