With my bad rotator cuff, I'm unable to do upright rows without a lot of pain. I asked a chiropractor about it, and he explained about how the rotator cuff wasnt designed to work that way, and it can very easily lead to injury.

Do you have a bad rotator from the result of training or previous athletic injuries? I know some people who have injured their rotators and it has prevented them from performing several exercises. An injured rotator cuff scares me!

It happened so long ago I can't remember exactly how it happened, pretty sure it was in the gym, training too heavy without enough warmup. it usually doesn't bother me, recently I was doign 5x5 on free weight military press with 235lbs and it felt great, but then I did something wrong, not sure what, now it hurts like hell. As a result, I stay away from anything that puts my shoulder in an injury prone position, including anything behind the neck, and upright rows. That being said, some guys can do them forever and not have a problem, I'm just too scared to take chances.

Yeah, I am not messing with the upright rows for the same reason. I already have really bad sciatica in my left leg I dont need another injury- lifting can be excrutiatingly painful as it is for me. So if I do my usual 5x5 db military presses and then follow up with 3x8-10 lateral raises + 3x8-10 reverse flyes and then some shrugs does that look good? How should I do the reverse flyes? Standing or face down on an incline bench?

Sounds good, do the reverse flyes which ever way you feel it the most in the target area, try them both and see which one you like better
