First off, all you no marriage fucks...move along.

I'm engaged, and I don't want to get ripped off.

I'll be humble here and admit I'm not rich (anti EF style)

I have about 2-3 grand to spend on a ring.

Where do I go to not get ass raped, thanks....
 
Dude just tell her that the money you save from not buying her a dumbass ring can be used to build an extra wing in your house so you can have your own game room and some privacy. Trust me. I'm a marriage counselor.

I'm one of the most financially minded persons you'll ever speak to.

I realize this is a black hole, but it's necessary.

I'd rather spend this few grand on some solid stocks, trust me.

I did it on purpose, as to not fuck up the purchase.

Wanted to give her a choice, to not fuck it up too bad....

who knows what shape, setting, etc. I figured I'd leave that to her. With a limit of course :)

That's why I'm looking for reasonable places to go....

got 3 of them, ascending in value...the hotter one will get the more expensive,
if she's ugly she'll get the cheap one

I got my wife (then fiance') a 1 carat diamond solitaire for 3 grand. That was 16 years ago though. The diamond had good color and clarity but a few occlusions which lowered the price. You have to look really close to see occlusions and how often do people put their eye right up against an engamement ring.

More recently, my wife bought diamond earrings for her mother from diamonds.com We were very impressed. I believe you get a better quality diamond from them then they sell in the average jewelry store (price is about the same per carat but quality is better). If I had to by another engagement ring I'd definitely get it from there.

then she picks out the 10k one, batts her eyes and chewy is stuck paying for the motherfucker, knowing all to well that in 5 yrs most likely they'll be divorced.

Buy what you can afford you can always upgrade later.Last one I bought for an unappreciate Bitch Damn near got a restraining order put against me.If she loves you for who you are and not what she can get.2 or 3 g's is plenty Good luck

gorgeous european cuts etc...theyre cut to reflect in candle light instead or incandescent (sp?)
plus the big cushion cuts with flowery kind ove smaller stones around the center are pretty popular lately

my center stone has one...its all i fricken see when i look at the ring...and I picked it...a D color is wildly different from an H or and I

I already proposed. We're going to pick it out together.

2-3 g's was the limit I gave her. I can probably bump it up to 4 G's if I want to punish myself.

I would just get a cubic zirconia in a nice setting if she'd be ok with that. other than you guys and a real jeweler nobody would know or care. they look pretty damn good. if i ever get engaged again thats what im doing !

If you haven't proposed yet i'd check out some local places. RESEARCH RESEARCH RESEARCH will prevent you from getting ripped off. Read everything you can about the C's... Cut, Clarity, and some others

you can sacrifice on size and get a lower clarity if size is what you want but when I was looking back in the day, I went with clarity over size. Back when I was looking I had 4k cash and found I'd rather have a nice light reflecting diamond over a big dull one.

also if you are on a budget don't forget to factor in cost of wedding and shit like that. Don't spend more than you can afford.. you've been with her for 4 years, she isn't going to love you more if you buy a 6k diamond ring vs a 2k ring... we know which one they'd prefer but most women aren't that stupid!

i think there are good deals to be had on ebay, as well. mom's an ebay machine, always researching stuff like jewelry, perfumes, back scratchers, etc. indian women are certified experts. but i doubt you'd be comfortable with that unless you know this shit well.

i agree with clockwork: i'd much rather go for a small diamond which is closer to perfect, as opposed to a bigger one which has greater flaws.

I love my baby possibly too much. lol. There is nothing I regret about my baby. I dont care a thing about my life before Abby, I dont mind the family scene, but I do sometimes want strangle my husband :p We got along fine before the baby came. So I dont know. Not gonna lie, kids are hard on a marriage. We had some good times during the 5 years we were married before the baby came.

Man made gem quality diamonds that are indistinguishable from natural stones but cost considerably less. Personally I hate diamonds as they are a geologically unsound stone, but were I to buy one I'd get this.

I've been slowly brainwashing her for years bro.

I got her singing sevendust and whatnot, we're good to go.

Tho, I seen rage at alpine valley a year or two ago and I was happy she wasn't there. Less to worry about :)

She def enjoys a good tune. Plus, she dances around to any ridiculous song that's playing. Entertaining as hell :)
 
Congrats on the engagement.

It's not necessarily a "black hole", because you could give it to your kids or something down the line. That would be nice to save your kids some money some day. I wish that were done for me when I did it. I got a $6-$7k ring, and thought I may do that for my son or daughter. (daughter is a little strange. "Hey kid, give this to my daughter when the time is right!" lol)

Anyway, the ring got stolen from my house, along with all our other jewelry.. Oh well. Have fun.
