Neck injury? While doing shoulder press

Enock

New member
Today I was doing shoulder press, and on my 8th rep I heard my neck crack 3 times, (like some people can do on will) well it now hurts to turn my head left, or lean my head back and to the the left.

It hurts to hold a phone on my right shoulder using my head, and I can't even think about doing it w/ my left. I just feel I can't bend like that or I'll snap my neck or something.

Any idea to what the fuck I did? Did I pull some sort of muscle? Think I can fix it by cracking my neck somehow or should I just sleep on it and hope it fixes itself?

I don't have the money for a chiro so thats out of the question. Right now it really sucks.

anyone else get this pain what did you do to fix it? I mean if somehow I knocked something a bit out of alignment holding my head still isn't going to fix it since its not just going to heal. On the other hand I don't want to make things worse .

In the past I've hurt my neck while doing shrugs just from moving my head around a little bit. The soreness and stiffness I had went away in a few days. Were you moving your neck around while doing the shoulder presses?

I've learned to keep my head still while doing any exercises that put stress on the spine.

get your butt to a doctor/hospital, neck injuries can be serious...

I agree, see a doctor, I occasionally get muscle spasms from behind neck presses but they go away fairly quick. Real easy to cause yourself some serious long term pain if you are not careful.

Or failing that, yoga should put your neck "back in" . . . try some. Works for me and I get the same prob every time I do shoulder presses, pull down, squats . . . :)

Enock. don't worry too much about it. I just went through the exact same thing, just this week! You have a stiff neck. I've gotten them before doing shoulder work, particularly front presses.

Take some ibuprofen and put some flexall on it. I also used a hot pack that help a lot. It's pretty much a muscle pull. You'll be fine in a few days.

wow we have a doctor. Listen up Enock. Rest for the night but if the pain is still there tomorrow or worsens throught the rest of the day you should go to a doctor. The gentleman I have quoted should not diagnose you over the net that is very dangerous. You may just have a stiff neck as suggested by him but you could also of slipped a disk in your neck or fractured one of the bones due to stress.

A final note to all members please refrain from diagnosing medical conditions or injuries over the net especially when dealing with the spinal column youcould actually seriously hurt someone with bad advice this is nothing to play with.

hmmm

i had the same thing, where i could rotate my neck to the left, but it hurt. difference is i did it sitting down :o

nmow, io read up on it and it said try some anti-inflammatories like parecetomol, rest it, its preobably too late to bother iceing it....u still feel pain and temerature and fine tounch around ur neck so it aint broke, but it might be something serious

and if it does persist, go see a doc :)

Anyone who would take what I or anyone else writes on this board as a medical "diagnosis" is probably not bright enough to make it through everyday life.

The point of this board is to share info and experiences. So that's what I did. My phrasing might have sounded more authorotative than I actually am, but come on guys.
