weird I saw this thread...

happened to me today for the first time.

I thought I didn't pay attention to my hand and arm positions for that set. (plus it was my first set of squats)

So I payed extra attention on the next set and it didn't happen for the rest of my workout.

I get it too sometimes. It feels like the circulation is cut off at my shoulders if my elbows are too far back when holding the bar.

I've been doing squats for over 20 years and never experienced any of the numbness you guys are talking about. I'm not trying to be an "Alarmist" but as you know, the vertebrae is in the back and many outlying nerves can be affected through the disc and nerve endings in the back. Since you say this happens when doing squats you should be very attentive to this problem. I have for years seen a Chiro who has alleviated what had been re-occuring spasms in the region of the neck to shoulder area. I have a bad disc in my lower neck and the nerves here were causing me to have these spasms. Likewise, maybe your "numbing" experiences are related to a bad disc in your back - pressing against some nerves that create this numbing feeling. If - it's a frequent thing I would seriously have yourself checked out. I know that there's alot of negatism to Chiroprators but I can tell you that I no longer suffer any spasms and can lift freely without having to make any changes in my routine. The key is getting checked out and corrected - early enough - if there is a problem. As for the position of hands and arms, I've tried several hand positions but never had any "numbing". Just saying - be careful - your body may be trying to tell you something isn't quite right.

sounds like that your hands were too close............ put them out as wide as possible.......... i have a bicep/tendon injury that hurts like a mofo unless i grip the bar at the ends.

if that dont work.......... "doctor, doctor.........pls help me?"

I find this happens to me every once in a while when the bar gets a little too far down my back and my wrists get bent back pretty far this seems to slow/cut off the circulation to my hands (at least I think this is what is happening, its only happened a couple of times so I haven't been able to comletely isolate the problem).

Yea I know what your sayin... I put my hands wide some times I dont even hold the bar , I just kinda balance it with my arms over it. Most of the time my hands and arms go all tingely. It stops right after I'm done though.

When doing high reps..yes...it happens.
