Morons at the gym (the official thread)...

I thought I'd add this to the thread. This happenes to me a minimum of 4 times per year, and it happens either when I train at a different gym as a guest and someone approaches me or when somebody trains at my normal gym as a guest and they approach me.

When I finish a set, the person (always a guy) will aproach me. If the guy is clearly older than me, he compliments me, then proceeds to tell me how much bigger and stronger he was than me until (insert devastating injury here) such as torn rotator cuff, torn ACL/MCL/PCL, blown out knee, herniated discs, gun shot wound, torn pec, etc etc.

If the guy is around my age or younger, he gives a compliment and then proceeds to tell me how much bigger and stronger his brother/cousin/uncle/neighbor/football coach/guy he saw on TV is than me.

The funny thing is, when I know for a fact that there is someone at the gym a lot bigger and stronger than me, or if there is someone who coaches guys a lot bigger and stronger than me, the legit guys don't seem to be compelled with the desire to inform me of this.

I can't wait until this happens to me!

I just remembered a fun item that happened a few weeks back....

I was doing deads and setting up for a set with my 5RM, so I was trying to get focused.

These two morons come walking by, obviously one "guru" is offering his boundless knowledge to the other one. I was trying not to pay attention to their convo and focus but....

Moron1 "Whoa, whats that guy doing? Those look like they would kill...."

Moron2 "Oh, those are deadlifts... you don't need to do those... its a good way to hurt your QUADS."

lmfao.

I had to break for a couple minutes to recompose myself lol

LOL - I love it - I live in a real "hip" city and workout in a "hip" gym - the trainers there tell me deadlifts are bad for you unless your a professional football player - don't they have to learn about muscles to get kinesiology degrees

Just tonight there were a couple of real skinny kids, about 18 and a good 130-140 pounds each. They were talking to an older guy, about 56, on how much he benched (he looks like a super-heavy weight powerlifter who has not been as dedicated for a few years).

He tells them he'll probably work up to 405x1. The kids walk away laughing and making stupid remarks. I then watched this 56 year old guy knock out 3 perfect sets of 315x6, no bounce, with a pause, not even close to failure.

Instead of asking this guy for tips, they just went over to the preacher curl bench and knocked out reps with what looked like a 25.

You have to be careful with those quintagenarians. We have one, too, who comfortably cranks out six or seven reps with three plates. His standard workout warmup is five reps with one plate, five with two plates, anywhere from five to seven with three plates. It seems he then decides what he's doing for the day.

hmmm.... someone's getting there pretty soon :p

I know mr Shadowbox has been mentioned already, but how about his kid brother.. the little fella spazzing away at the punchbag

The cardio equipment in my gym is directly opposite the little studio with the punchbag so I get a prime view of the college boys and highschool kids living out their rocky fantasies.. sadly no-one let them know that flailing at a heavy bag for 5 minutes with horrible technique IN A HEALTH CLUB doesn't make you iron mike and doesn't mean you can kick my ass (or even my 100lb gf's ass for that matter).

It does mean I'll stare at you with a huge grin on my face and point you out to my workout partner as you make tough guy faces to try to intimidate the grannies on the treadmills ... because you're incredibly entertaining and truely pathetic at the same time
