I can relate to the feeling of wanting to do everything, when in reality its too much and you're grinding yourself into the ground.

Enjoy the pool. You deserve it after Saturday!

well i decided to try reverse band bench press today for the first time so i could set a pr at something...lol

so I did this with the light bands (purple)

225x8
225x8
315x5
405x5
455x5
495x3
505x2

then I did push press

135 x 5
135 x 3

got mad and left....

i realized that I had not recovered from Saturdays events and i had practice outside prior to the workout so I was spent and my joints were just killing me, even though I worked up to a "big" weight for me on the bench it felt like it was going to break me...lol

i am going to train legs tomorrow, i think I'll take it easy and work speed and flexability twice this week, in the meantime I am going to get in the pool for my plyos and ar;)

Still very nice man. It is VERY difficult to go heavy in the gym AND heavy on the events. For most of my guys...the contest day is the EASIEST Event day that they ever get. On contest day you only have to do the event once...lol.

I don't know if you overheard me saying it at dinner or not...but Bob Youngs said that he has to cut his DE percentages down to 40 percent or lower when he prepped for that 'semi-strongman' contest he did in Florida a couple years ago. It is just to much to recover from. Too many joints are involved in EVERY event...

Still a VERY nice lift man... I set a PR on those overhead rack presses (bar nearly touching collar bone) tonight with 275. It was ROUGH!!! lol

I have a new respect for the fact that you get after it all day sunday and come back on monday to do ME stuff, that is nuts, but I guess you are used to it

I had a practice and had to run and do a lot of hand work (kind of a cross between judo and boxing) this always makes my biceps start aching....i don't know why

My de days have been amazing lately though, I have cut the weight down to like 40 percent and found ways to truly be explosive. I don't think as long as I am playing sports I will ever go back to the regular style de squat and bench. This week I am going to front squats into a full push press throw 12 sets of 2....should hit the whole body and build a chain of explosiveness.
I am going to start doing stones and tire on my me lower day now because after doing them i realized the potential carryover is amazing...i'll let you know how that goes tomorrow...

I couldn't imagine running and then training...lol.

What are your thoughts on the stones/tires for carryover? Helping on the field or helping in the gym?

B True

on the field....the tire is basically what i do out of a stance all day, I am going to experiment with hand placement to simulate a variety of moves, also i think that with the 600 pound tires at the gym if i was to use an overhand grip, i could flip it without using a knee and make it really fast.

the stones are a great tool b/c the way you "wrap" it up is very similar to making a tackle, add the hips explosion from the full squat position and you have a great form tackle...

I was thinking of doing free standing good mornings today for a me move, anyone have any thoughts on these? How low are they supposed to go? What kind of weight in relation to my squat should I plan on using?? I have only used them as a accesory move before...

i just got threw doing these a few weeks ago. i worked up to a 1 rep max at about a hundred lbs less than my squat max. i set my feet in my normal squat stance, and bend the knees only slightly, and bend untill i loose my arch.

some people like spatts can go parallel to the floor....... but i think 45 degrees is good enough depth.

X

i'm no expert but i go to parallel or alil lower and i use a lil more than i squat...but i have weak legs....i can only squat like 350lb and gm round 375lbs. i think spatts has great vids on these on her site. i think its in a sticky at the top of the page.
