Marijuana and muscle building

ok, well i can't really give you much in the way of science to go with this one, but i can give you my experience of it. i used to smoke a lot of weed, and i was a lot slimmer then. i dont think thc directly causes loss of muscle mass, however, it does speed up your metabolism.now i know what you're thinking, thats a good thing, isnt it?
not really in this case, seeing as when you're stoned chances are you're not going to be arsed to eat enough and/or properly. i do miss having a nice smoke after work/training, but i feel a lot better in general for quitting weed. thing is, you get used to it so you wont know how much more energy you'll have until you kick it. that said, unless you're a contest bodybulider and your physique depends upon you putting very strict amounts of only certain chemicals into your body, there's nothing wrong with having a VERY occasional smoke. hope this helps, as a said, maybe someone will be able to come along and give us a bit of science regarding this matter.

yeah? a friend of mine told me that aswell, i was the complete opposite. smoking used to make me lazy and not want to exert myself, thats why i used it to chill out after a lifting.
 
I will only make one comment here as Rudy has already layed it out for us gentlemen & the only reason for this comment is that I personally believe it is on topic here.

THC has many affects on the body & mind, but lets focus just on the body for now as mental effects are a moot point when referencing bodybuilding.

THC is known to change the way an individual "experiences" pain. In other words the chemical nerve signals being carried from the pain source to your brain get interpreted differently IN the brain. After leg day or deadlifts where you have a hard time dragging yourself from the gym to the car, have a smoke then and you will see exactly what I mean.

Also (and this is contreversial) I have found personaly that I obtain a much better nights sleep after a smoke before bed. I don't move at all, wake up in the exact same position I fell asleep in and based on what I know about healing and growth, this is a good thing!

Again I just wanted to attempt to tie the relevance of this "recreational drug" to bodybuilding. I mean you no dis-respect Rudy and I suspect you will close this thread soon anyway.

Exactly, I get the exact same feeling. I focus so much more and my pain threshold seems to be higher. I have very good workouts when I hit it a little bit. Getting blasted is bad news but just a head change for some reason allows me to focus better and my intensity is amazing. I will be in the gym for an hour and a half hitting chest exercises. I dont realize I have been there that long and have just blown my chest up with about 10 different exercises. :)

good post.i agree about the sleep bit, first position you get in is comfy as fuck and you just go straight to sleep, and unlike having a drink or anything more dubious/illegal to help you sleep you dont wake up feeling groggy.
i dont think this post should be removed, we're not condoning it's use or talking about how to use it etc just talking about it's relevance/irrelevance to the world of bodybuilding.

actually, going on what people have posted on this thread the general attitude towards it is more relaxed than i would have expected. if it's good enough for arnie, its good enough for anyone of us lol

so general consensus is, enjoy life, but enjoy everything in moderation-if you like the skin on the chicken, fuck it, go on have a little bit every now and again, if you like a beer, fuck it, go sit in a nice sunny beer garden with your mates, have a catch up and a few bottles, if you like a little smokey smoke, go for it, lifes to short to abstain from everything you enjoy doing.

i donot smoke during the day...but before bed at night i hit it a few times...puts me to sleep and i feel refreshed every morning

Marijuana in this instance is being discussed as a bodybuilding drug much like steroids. This post is about marijuana and it's effect on muscle building, hence the post is not even being framed in a fashion regarding 'recreational' (getting high) usage.

yes, il agree with you that most of that threads in c and c are random ramblings, but i like this thread, i have enjoyed it,it is something many people here will be able to relate to, and hopefully has answered some questions that people were perhaps unsure of asking around here.
i don't think mustang asking ' who the fuck is rudy' has anything to do with what board the messages were being typed on.
