maltodextrin reviews

You guys are great on this forum answering supplement questions!

I read online, After a hard workout, maltodextrin will quickly get energy to your muscles, I was wondering if somebody can give me more info about it. I would like to start taking it after the gym, but I'm curious to know if there is any side effects from taking it or is it like a normal protein powder, thank you.

Maltodextrin is a very fast digesting powder carbohydrate source. It is nothing magical. You could get the same effect by eating white rice, plain brown rice cakes, rice krispies cereal etc after your workout. All of those are also easy digesting carbohydrate sources that will be assimilated rapidly by the body.

I personally use a carbohydrate supplement after my workout with a whey protein isolate because it's convenient and I can put everything in one shake bottle but it isn't anything magical. It's just a powdered carb source.

After each of my workouts I take 30g whey isolate + 40-80g waxy maize carb powder + a scoop of greens powder.

Waxy maize is very similar to maltodextrin but it has a higher molecular weight. This causes a 'shuttling effect'. It helps transport the foods you eat with the carb into muscle cells. This makes it optimal to replenish depleted glycogen stores post workout.

No side effects, unless you take way too much of it, then two things might happen:
1. Stomach can get slightly upset
2. You might gain fat

I would rather use other sources of energy, because you can drink with the same success a can of cola, which is obviously not good. For instance, whey isolate with some creatine will do wonders for your energy levels, and this is what I take after each workout - works for me.

don't do it bro

what you are reading is guys who use insulin post workout who use the dex. for the average joe you simply should not do that. eat a well balanced meal post workout, don't believe the hype that you need anything else

its the same scam that is sports drinks.. just a shitload of sugar that you don't need.. drink water ! if you just ran a marathon then yeah you need sugar asap, or you will go hypo. you don't need 100g of sugar after a 1 hour workout

it is basically just a pure sugar. What you want is a proper meal after training. Don't let people fool you into thinking you need to chug a shake with protein and sugar as soon as you complete your last rep. Just finish lifting, drive home, and make a good meal.
